Are high prices and shortage of graphics cards ruining PC gaming?
Everything is overpriced and poorly stocked nowadays, will it hurt PC gaming a lot in the long run?

Only solution I see is the iGPU market becoming more viable, with Intel and AMD providing better cost-efficient "APU" solutions.

Currently, consoles offer much better "bang for buck", hardware-wise.

I'm not knowledgeable enough to know. But I think it probably effects consoles as well, so I guess it effects all areas of electronics.

Wish we were still in 3dfx times - you dropped those 200/300 bucks for a graphics card and it ran everything and in good quality. (if it was older model you dropped the resolution and turned off some effects, but on CRT monitors, lower resolutions still looked good enough)

No shortage of CPUs ! And mobos ! GPU shortages are real though. One day people who wait for stock will get lucky, gotta stop the scalpers though.

No, because game developers want their games to be accessible to everyone in order to earn the highest amount of profit.

What does this mean? It means that developers design games that are accessible to weak hardware because there is no point in designing a game that can only be ran by a few gamers who have the best hardware available.

The high gpu prices may lead to intergrated graphics becoming standard or better in all cpus. I've heard wild claims/rumors that amd may have intergrated in thier future cpus.

No. It just ruins the fun times of upgrading for kicks.

Yes... blame it on cryptocurrency mining...

It's kind of nice a direct line can be drawn from my finger to the culprits. It's not so nice that there is nothing we can do about it, lol.

What scares me more than video card prices is that crypto miners are working on currencies that use hdd/sdd storage space. And whatever else they can imagine, like throwing paint at the wall.

1k for a decent video card is one thing, but 1k for every major pc part??? Scary. Crypto miners could single handedly destroy the build it yourself computer market, because prebuilts can lock in lower prices.

I've heard china recently banned crypto. But everything still seems expensive.

I feel like a scarier trend brought upon by these shortages is streaming-based solutions (Stadia, etc.) overtaking both PC and console gaming altogether.

Semiconductor shortage is affecting every industry. Volkswagen and Opel, for example, are suspending production.

This is more than just luxury entertainment getting expensive.
Lambros Oct 3, 2021 @ 12:50pm
Never known pc gaming not to cost significantly more than a console.
Dracoco OwO Oct 3, 2021 @ 12:53pm
Arguably it's only ruining it for peoples that couldn't afford these before. So almost nothing changes it's only slowing down. And devs seems to be pushing old games ports or remasters anyways.
