A soulmate is a soul whom you share every life with. It's not exclusively your "one true love", that's a Western misinterpretation of it by gurus so-called from the heyday of the New Age movement - which wasn't really anything new, it was just a bunch of morons pretending to be enlightened and engaging in massive amounts of plagiarism, drugs and pseudoscience. The concept of a soulmate was first introduced to the West by the Theosophists - the kind of books on Eastern philosophy and the occult that your great-grandparents would've read were primarily penned by them. It's originally a Hindi or Buddhist concept IIRC, and the Theosophists were the ones who initially introduced the West to it.

A soulmate can be anyone, so long as they're someone whom you share every life with - a parent, a child, a teacher, a sibling, a friend, and of course the common go-to, a lover. The relationship does not need to be romantic and typically probably isn't in the least. But they're someone whom you're alongside every time in your incarnations in life - as are you alongside them.

As to answer your question, I don't know. I don't think so.

Had one cat. She loved sleeping on my lap. And then when she slept I could feel her shaking in her sleep. This was the ultimate trust someone ever had into me. I've now two other cats but they don't like sleeping nor laying on my lap. Oof.

Yep. About six years ago when I started dating my wife. She's been with me through all of my worst moments. I couldn't be more lucky.

I don't think she meant it that way, a soulmate could also just be a best friend and never come close to be sex related.

Reminds me of the general sentiment behind platonic love. Or actual philia that is asexual, before that word, too, has been sexualized by today's neo-westerners.

Maybe it's experienced as a kind of transcendental concept? That is understood akin to consciousness itself, relative to the absence of consciousness. Or the idea of morals/ethics, relative to the absence of morals/ethics. As such, the transcendental soulmate, or the platonic love, is also understood relative to its absence. With the point being that it exists as idea, the same way consciousness and morals/ethics exist as idea.

Indeed, one might go so far as to say that it (platonic love, the soulmate, etc) disables carnal affections related to eros and co, that are for most shallow people part of a relationship and "true love," necessarily. And, indeed, it's in part why I actually liked the style of some 2d girls, as contrast to oversexualized materialism. It appeals in a different way. And maybe it's also from whence ideas such as reason and mindfulness are derived. Etc...
