Yes... I graduated from school
They haven't noticed I'm gone yet... and it's been quite some time.
I recall the ditch day that the school I went to for senior year did. Was something that the seniors did every year. I think I was one of the handful who didn't. Granted, also was one of the handful who didn't, say, go to prom or Sadie Hawkins or any of those other events. But then again, it was the first year since second grade that I was more or less in the general population and not segregated from it along with the rest of the special education students.
…Did wind up getting more applause at graduation than the valedictorian though so that was nice.
Though at the same time, I do want to try something else instead of gaming.
We called it Wagging and that word sounds about as serious as i ever took it
I was not suited to high school
In college I had a french teacher that wouldn't leave me alone, Because everyone but me and this one girl who dropped out had already had french in high school, so they took it in college as an easy A. But I was just like "Wow french, I tried spanish in high school but i didn't do well. Lets try french Yay! it'll be fun!"
And me as a shy introvert in the french class. Every class.... "Today were are reading from our french book. Lets go down the list saying the french sentence, they do fine. It gets to me. The rest of the class, its the teacher standing over me having me talk the whole class while everyone stares at me. The girl dropped out. I asked my guardian "Hey I'm having trouble with my french can we practice?" and she said "No! I'm too old I don't need to learn any of this".
And yeah... I started skipping french class to the library to read books like the secret of narnia. And I got so hooked on it and other books I ended up skipping most everything that semester. Even classes I didn't intend too, because some classes were wonderfully fun.
Of course, that did mean I failed 3 classes in the course of 2 years in high school and eventually graduated with a 1.6 gpa - in the gifted program, mind you... most of my classes were advanced, but some I just Did Not Go To.
If I could have started classes at 10 or even 9 instead of SEVEN FIFTY in the morning? I would have probably graduated on the honor roll. It's not that I am not smart or don't enjoy learning: I love learning things and applying knowledge. I just couldn't do it within the time frame that was absolutely necessary for... reasons.
I still question that aspect of school. Kids are required to report to school at 7:15 am, which means waking up at around 6:30 am (often earlier), getting ready, not even have time for breakfast, and go to school before sunrise. And kids have to do this for 10 years before they can attend higher education with more flexible class timings.
I could be wrong, but I don't think making children drag themselves out of bed before dawn and rushing them to school before sunrise is a healthy environment for children to grow up in.
That is because our world is discriminative and wants to fit us all down to one box.
