Yet that's what Trump is doing, with a weak excuse of claiming "spyware" upon apps/games that have already been checked by Security Experts, yet ignored, due to the flow of cash from USA to Chinese online entertainment by kids and their parents.
Some of the citizens are so blind, they don't even see it or even encourage it more! Yay, no more TikTok, WeChat, or Fortnite, etc, that's a good thing right? You guys are such blind puppets and I won't blame your own kids for hating you. However, at least learn your own USA rights before it's too late.
I say, DO UNTO CHINA WHAT CHINA DOES TO US.
I would personal boycott Facebook, that's spyware which pays off fines just to remain up and running. Haven't you heard about the "Cambridge Analytica" data leak? That's just one of many.
In total, Facebook has been fined over $5 billion for your own personal data breaches and privacy invasions. This affects the US Citizens the most! If Trump or someone else suggested we need to ban Facebook, I wouldn't be against that as a Security Expert who can confirm it.
I'm not going to be bias and claim bs, just for other hidden agendas and an xenophobia however... screw that corruption.
My point is: all those companies, regardless of being American or Chinese, do about the same thing: spying and collecting data on its users. China has not allowed any American companies to spy or collect data inside China for many years, yet the US has continued to let Chinese companies to spy and collect data inside the US. How is that fair to America or US companies?
You can call what Trump is doing as retaliation or reciprocity, but I actually support this ban, because China has long banned American companies from doing in China what TikTok and Zoom have been doing in the US. This is an obvious case how China has been taking advantage of the US and unfairly treat America.
I say Trump should move on and target Zoom and other Chinese apps next. Keep eliminating Chinese companies and apps from the US until China agrees to let Facebook, Google, Twitter to operate freely in China, and THEN we will reciprocate and allow their companies to operate in the US. We really cannot allow China to continue to treat US companies differently from how the US has been treating Chinese companies. It is time to serve China back their own medicine.
Plus, if you think what the Chinese already does is a bad thing with online censorship, then why would you copy it yourself? You already seen what happens when they do it, yet you become what you hate? Real smart... throw your First Amendment out the window. Could you please get rid of the gun amendment while you at it or something that actually helps your country's development?
I say unless China allows Facebook, Google, Twitter and other US companies to operate in China, then from now on China should forget about the US continue to allow Chinese companies to operate freely in the US.
The whole point of even allowing China to trade with us in the first place was to hope that, through free and open trade, we would be able to influence China and make them become more open. That will never happen because China has banned Facebook, Google, Twitter -- i.e., China has banned the most effective forums that allow the free flow of ideas, allow the free and open discussions of freedom, democracy and open societies. Chinese people will never have a chance to have an open discussions about it because China has effectively shut down any chances of having an open discussion.
That is why China has never really opened up even after two decades of free trade, because they have effectively banned free flows of ideas into their country. On the other hand, China can let their companies and apps export their ideologies to America. That is unfair and needs to be changed.
I think it's just the beginning of your online censorship, with the great China... opps, I mean American Firewall.
Next there will be a censorship of LGBTQ content, morally "problematic" performances, such as hip-hop or those featuring visibly tattooed artists, violence in films and video games, etc. The list will go on and on.
As it pursues a broad crackdown on free speech and civil society, China... oops, I mean America, has to tighten the screws on virtual private network (VPN) providers and other means that allow people to tunnel under the great American Firewall.
The problem with that is what is "real" history?
I know American history taught in their own schooling system is already questionable at best.

Yet when it comes to online content, it seems to go from one extreme bias to the other.
So in defense...

I take it stores like aptoide will still have the app available.
I take it although iphone and android will no longer support it that if they wanted to, both app businesses could still make it work on both or one of the phones ?
Lastly do the millions of tiktok and we chat users in the western countries that ban it intend to defy the ban ?
If they have a chance, they will destroy all democratic countries in an heart beat and establish communism across the world ( say good bye to Human rights / Freedom of speech). The only power that can stop China and Russia is USA.
USA is the reason this world is still seeing democracy. The more you empower China and give them money, the more you say goodbye to democracy.
The norms of one country doesn't matter on the Internet. It's a global environment, where you might disagree with each other, but get multiple view points. Some tend to go from one extreme to the other.
That is why China has a Great Firewall, to censor the information outside of it's scope, by DNA poisoning and blocking, etc. It scopes the Internet back into only it's own governments view point and blocks anything else against it. Your media focus changes.
When a country uses another countries online services, they also tend to pay for it. So there's a large cash flow between those places too. If you have a quality and popular product doing well online, most global users will come visit that. Other startups might not be able to compete or aren't as good in quality, fun and entertainment, etc. By blocking that, your entertainments and cash flows also changes. You are limited to what you have, but most are forced into that and come to access it.
This is nothing new and already been done in China, Trump is just copying the idea and reversing it around for Americans. Firstly targeting kids apps and games, for the reason, as they don't have a say against the changes as much as adults and the adults finding their kids addicted and using those products regularly assume it's a good thing and a positive change. Slowly over time, more and more gets added to it, till the shift is set in.
If they indeed want to "destroy the world", how could tiktok help that ambition?
apps like tiktok earns china billions of dollars every year. The money they will use to gain more army / fire power.
