I don't think I've seen a laptop where the GPU isn't soldered to the motherboard.
(Actually, while typing that I remembered 2, but theyre super enthusiast tier ♥♥♥♥ that will cost stupid money.)
And are you sure it's dying, and not just a ♥♥♥♥♥♥ driver?
I'm extremely poor, so I know about getting your moneys worth, and sure, the 970 did that, like most other GPUs if you keep them long enough, with a few that were worth keeping longer.
Just because you refuse to upgrade doesn't make your current one better for living that long, I could pull out my old GTX 750 and still play games in (shredders version) of 30 fps, does that mean it's a monster, ♥♥♥♥ no, it just means I can make a game run.
The actual PCs that deserve to be called monsters are well out of most peoples price ranges.
I mean, you can keep doing what you're doing, using out dated tech and convincing youself that its still good, if you want. I won't think any less of you, I just won't pay attention to your silly claims of what is or isnt good, or what can do what.
Man, he doesn't see an difference between 30 fps (15 to 25 fps ) and 60 fps!!!
This guy actually said that, I kid you not.
