Can you suggest some good melee combat games to me please?
Hi,

I am currently in a mood for a combat game, having dug out my old Ps2 Fight Night game and played it for hours on PCSX2 emulator, I miss a good old fashion fight game and I dont kn ow what fighting games steam has to offer. Melee weapons are ok, if combat is good.

Games I liked so far is Shadow of Mordor, sleeping dogs, Batman
Games that made made me hate gaming was Dark Souls. It brings the worst out in me and I utterly hate it.

Games I havent tried but not really into are: Tekken, Street Fighter, Mortal Kombat style games. I dont like that limited left to right style action. I enjoy being able to move, throw combos, block and fight 2 or 3 enemy at once.

So aside from those games, any other decent melee games?

Thanks

Didn't see the part about you not liking Dark Souls, but Dark Souls are some of the most demanding melee combat games on Steam. They require you to actually think and block and dodge with strict timing and do things other than tap the attack button really fast.

In the opposite direction there are KOEI titles like One Piece Pirate Warriors 3 or Dynasty Warriors 8 Extreme Legends that might be of interest to you if you want button mashing and relatively easier fights against many dozens of weak enemies that mostly pose little threat to you.

Yeah, I want to like DS series, but I just suck at it with keyboard and mouse. And my steam controller still feels a tad foreign in my hands DS2 is not a bad game at all. I am just bad at it. I fought for like a week to get past the first boss, but I largely blame my keyboard and mouse and steam controller for alot of my issues-did I mention I also really suck at it? lol

not a fan of the highly ♥♥♥ animation art style of the koei, but oddly enough dynasty warrior 8 actually looks like something I would enjoy. I appreciate the help in finding some games.

Hi,

Games like the ones in your like list:

If you liked Shadow of Mordor you might like Shadow of War.

I don't know which Batman you tried, but Arkham City is great.

One Finger Death Punch is just brilliant. Use any 2 keyboard keys, left/right mouse keys, or any 2 controller buttons. I like LB and RB.

Everything in the Assassin's Creed line is great. All melee, some stealth/parkour. Chasing flags/feathers/collectibles/time-trials gets old fast.

Same goes for everything Prototype. Plus you can fly. And while flying you can divebomb the ground and shoot spikes up everywhere, grab a tank and throw it at a helicopter, consume a passerby to wear his face while you sprint vertically and take off flying again to evade pursuit. It's a horrid, disgusting game that should never have been made, but since it was made it must be played.

Warframe is probably the only MMO that was ever worth playing. Plenty of melee opportunities. Gets expensive if you get into it though.

Hammerfight is neat but definitely avoid if you have carpal tunnel or are prone to wrist cramping.

Mount and Blade is my all time favorite for every genre of game there is. Mount and Blade Warband is better. Just pass over "M&B With Fire & Sword" because it's lame. You can explore the map, recruit soldiers, or just ride around solo fighting small groups of bandits (and dodging or getting captured by others). You can just go to any city and fight in the Arena all you want - straight first or third person melee combat with various weapon types, all with different personalities. You can choose to pursue one of dozens of storylines or make up your own as you do your thing. Only in Warband can you aspire to be King yourself, or even Emperor.

Star Wars: The Force Unleashed was pretty great in its day, except for a jarring audio disjunction error in the last couple of levels. Just avoid the sequel. It's chickenshit.

Darksiders or God Eater series might fit the melee gaming bill, if you don't mind anime graphics and ridiculass weapons bigger than the fighters. I didn't care for them.

Dying Light is a superb FPS, parkour, melee combat game with crafting and lockpicking minigames, and an interesting storyline that I really quickly lost track of with all the "personal goal" options available.

Anything with "Elder Scrolls" in it (apart from that MMO POS called Tamriel Online) can be played as an FPS/Melee-only if you like, or you can use bows and learn magic.

Same goes for anything with "Fallout" in the title, except 1 and 2 and I think Brotherhood of Steel and Tactics. Search for Fallout and filter by First Person Shooter only.

The Forest is a survival and crafting game with plenty of opportunities for melee or bow combat. NOTHING LIKE ANYTHING ELSE IN THIS LIST THOUGH. Everything else in this list either is or can be a dedicated fighting game. Just throwing stuff against the wall and seeing if it sticks. I guess I'm done.

Holy hell I forgot about Prototype, I murdered my fist pc about a decade ago playing that game on an underpowered pc. I also forgot about the AC series. Thank you so much!

Hellblade actually looks really good.
Never played a DMC title before, might check those out
last game not really feeling it, but ty, I am marking all these choices down for what to add, because the lack of boxing games on pc really bothers me lol

You might want to look into Devil may Cry 5 and DMC first if you want to check out those games, as those are the games of that franchise I can most comfortably play with mouse and keyboard.

Dead Island/Riptide.
Dragon Age Origins.
Dying Light.
Force Unleashed.

Repeating "One Finger Death Punch" because it's just that good, and fits this category kind of. Don't be fooled by screenshots. Just buy it. Watch how UNREADABLY FAST the loading screen tips and comments go by. Play for 10-15 minutes on normal difficulty. Restart the game and notice how the actual speed hasn't changed at all BUT NOW THEY'RE ON THE SCREEN FOREVER AND A DAY XD

It's very boxing type.

I was also going to suggest Zeno Clash.

Another game with combat similar to Devil May Cry is Mitsurugi Kamui Hikae. It's a smaller indie game but still fun with flashy over the top fighting.

Chivalry: Medieval Warfare is probably the best I've ever run across, but it's difficult to find games outside of the EU now and the engine has needed fixed for a few years. There's a sequel that I think is coming to steam sometime in 2020 or 2021.

Mount & Blade is kind of janky and unresponsive, and if you play multiplayer people are going to do things you can't even see and which rely on exploiting the engine to make themselves swing faster and deal more damage. Until you get to that point though it can be fun.

Jedi Knight/Academy games tend to suffer from the 'canned moveset and specials' issue of a lot of 2d fighters, though it's been a while since I've played. Singleplayer on all of them is fun.

For Honor is...okay. It's kind of arcade-y outside of the duel mode, and duel mode opens you up to a pretty ridiculous amount of cheese, nonsense combos, surprise ringouts, and other kinds of frustrations. It has its moments though. Regular mode is an MMO loot grind team pvp mode, which means most of your matches will be overwhelmingly decided by gear.

Blade Symphony is a pile of game-deciding special attacks centered around a relatively unique and interesting base engine. Didn't help that there are like 6 totally unique and different characters whose game design documents probably look like a crop circle. Worth a try.

Not really fond of Dark Souls either. Entire game feels superfluous compared to pressing dodge at the right time for i-frames. PVP has never worked right.

Kingdom Come: Deliverance has actually been scratching this itch for me fairly well, though you kind of have to go out of your way to find combat and there are occasional camera/lockon priority issues that make me mildly sad. Still probably one of the most satisfying melee combat games I've played in a while.
