Pokemon Emulator?
This is completely random for Steam, but does anyon know of the official emulator used for Pokemon Red/Blue? The kind used in tournaments. Alternatively, does anyone know of the official Pokemon device used? I think it's a Gameboy, but I'm not too sure.

Bugger. So in conclusion to all of this, I have to buy an original Gameboy, or a Nintendo 3DS?
Yeah, but just buy a 2DS, it's like a 3DS without the 3D
You can also play most of the Pokemon generations in the 3DS

Afaik emulators are form of pirating, and not allowed. I may be wrong in some case, but this is from what I know.

An official emulator you say?

Yes there is, it's called Virtual Console and you have to buy them on the Nintendo eShop.

I'm looking for the official site by Nintendo, no pirating intended.

Cool! I found the official Nintendo site, but it doesn't look like there's a download/buy option...

In order to get Virtual Console you have to own something that VC is for. AFAIK it's probably anything Nintendo since the Wii.
Or Nintendo could port it. Just saying.

To play Pokemon in the Nintendo Virtual Console, you have to buy it from the Nintendo eShop, from a Nintendo 3DS or a 2DS

You can also buy a Gameboy or a Gameboy Color and the original Pokemon Red/Blue/Yellow or Gold/Silver/Crystal cartridges.

That was my first plan, but it's surprisingly expensive for all the hardware :(

Can I play it from my PC, or will any hardware be required?

If you want to play tournaments, you need a 3DS and UltraSun/UltraMoon

Just know that while I love Pokemon, it has one of the worst metas I've ever seen. Comp is really boring, just play PKMN for the singleplayer.

Just get a 3DS.

Why do you want to play R/B/Y for tournaments? Everyone plays X/Y and up for those
