Why don't guys hug each other?

Why don't guys hug each other? Whenever they do it always seems to be a man hug, you know the handshake that transitions into a hug-like, semi-embrace that lasts for like a second. Or if they properly hug it's seemingly only during a really special occation. Ofc, not everyone is this way but in general this seems ot be the matter.

Assuming you're not joking. Can't people still be gay AND asexual at the same time? I know many asexual people are still attracted to other people, they just don't have any desire for sex. I actually got piss drunk with one such woman once, but she was asexual so nothing really happened, but she found me attractive (although that was probably just the alcohol talking).

Yeah, apart from that handshit semi-hug you described, we don't really hug. The gay stigma is definately apart of it whether we think of it or not.

Honestly, I'm not into hugging. It's weird to me. I'm totally fine with the quick, handshake semi-hug.

It depends, if it's something very emotional, I WILL hug my friends, very tight, but in normal days I do every body motion except long hugs.
I litterally loop around them, jump around, highfive, brofist, etc... But I don't hug unless it's a special circumstance.

And you girls don't see us do that :P

I don't know man, I grew up as a single girl in a group of 10 guys and we've stayed as a group for nearly 20 years now and I haven't really seen them hug unless it was something very emotional as you said. Otherwise it's just like these small acts of affections, like you described. Yet everyone hugs me. It's just kinda weird.

It's a bit weird, yeah. Maybe they consider you like family ? The only 2 people I constantly hug are my mom and my brother.
Or maybe it's just hard-wired into them ? I don't even know.
One thing I'm sure of though : once the hug barrier is broken with a guy, they will repeat it more often.

In the U.S. it's basically, at least for my generation, a sign of emotions that you're not allowed to have, and yer gay.

Historically men have been considered the "tough, confrontational gender", and showing too much affection for someone was seen as a weakness and "not being man enough". Those stereotypes still live: even in the cultures with normalized male hugs and even kisses (such as a lot of Middle Eastern cultures), those hugs and kisses are more crude than soft/cuddly.

I don't have a problem hugging anyone personally, because I don't care about "gender roles" and other irrelevant nonsense. But, of course, initiating a hug with someone who does might be problematic. ;)

When I visit italy, men greet each other by kissing cheeks. I hate doing but if you don't its a sign of disrespect to many italians.

PS I don't hug other men, I don't feel comfortable doing so. In fact I don't hug women ethier.
