While Kubrick may have made many movies which themselves contained truth - hiding truth in fiction being one of the highest forms of art and also a common way to convey a message when you yourself are either being suppressed or threatened as he himself was, why else would he live in the middle of nowhere and greet interviewers with a shotgun to the face - The Shining as I've stated was based on a book by Stephen King and has as much truth to it as any other work that coke-addled nonce had penned.
