I paid my WoW subscription with gold after that was offered, back when I still played, but I don't know if that is still feasible. I had pre-paid my sub for two years, just with WoW tokens from the AH.
Did you find LFR satisfying? Nothing about LFR was epic in any way to me. It was so dumbed down that half the group could be (and usually was) AFK. My bear would tank LFR in auto mode. For any kind of challenge, you needed to have a raid guild or use the cross-server LFG tool, which was very tedious and groups often fell apart or were kicked out for underperforming.
If LFR was sufficient for you, there is probably no other game that has something comparable, mostly because no other MMO has as many players (or they are P2W).
Borderlands 2 still has active multiplayer where you can join or host public games.
Well I don't really have time for a whole lot of raiding and WOW isn't my cup of tea anymore. I justed liked the LFR feature because you could enjoy raid content and find a group in like 40 minutes. I I use to play it when I didn't have a full time job because I could invest alot of time into it. I was looking into Guild Wars 2 that seems like a pretty casual experience. It sucks that the numbers on most MMORPG's have dwindled.
Yeah im looking for something on the more casual side, it would be a waste for me to buy a subscription, kind of sucks because i'm really looking forward to the new Pantheon MMORPG. I know since they are veteran creators of Everquest that game will take me probably 2-3 years for max level lol.
