[This is the same as a Store/Retail outlet purchased system, btw]
Resellers/Vendors (that you mostly see in computing magazines/sites) are not BAD, it is just that you are paying for the extra service and having it all 'done for you'.
If you know how to put together a system by yourself (or know someone that does), then it will always be cheaper to buy the components and assemble it yourself.
But, if you don't know how to put together a system (or don't know anyone that does), it is a really easy way to pick a system you want (the good companies will allow you to 'customize' your system a bit, spending more money on one prat than another, if you wanted) and you don't have to worry about fixing it, as you have people you can call and places you can take it (until the warranty runs out).
[Note: this is all the same concepts as a Car, etc]
If I may make a Suggestion: check out a few different resellers/vendors and compare their prices and warranty, seeing if their parts are Brand Name components (ASUS, Gigabyte, etc) and then decide from there.
