Pepe emoticons are gone for good, your thoughts?

For those of you who missed it, the creator of Pepe filed a copyright claim and Steam removed all the Pepe emoticons from Steam. Well, sorta. Anyone who owns one just gets a blank space when they use it.

What do you all think about it?

Personally, I find it hilarious that they're gone.

What ould they get a refund for, exactly?
They gave money willingly to Valve for a subscription license. There is no guarantees whatosoever of any virtual goods and there are no rights of ownership conferred, so there's not really anything to refund.

That's why you read terms and conditions before entering any contract - especially if there's no real option for nbegotiating the contract.

Don't have strong feelings about copyright claims. Sucks for the owners, but the developers shouldn't have used copyrighted images/figures without permission in the first place. But it's sad to see them go, people are always suckers for memes so you could easily make a profit with them.

That's exactly what the developers did. The games that they made those emoticons for were garbage unity asset flips that took zero effort from the developers to make. They only made those games solely to exploit profits from trading cards and emoticons.

If anyone has a problem then they should take it up with those garbage game "developers."

See the problem with is copyright claim is that the pepe emote looks nothing like his boys club character. It's like saying spurdo is just a pedo bear or gondola is just spurdo. At this point his copyright makes no sense, you can't just make a copyright over a picture of a frog. Maybe if it was the same exact frog but compare the cunning pepe emote to the pepe that shows up in boys club. Looks nothing alike, the design has shifted completely. Honestly it could be contested in court easily but the issue is that he knows most people don't want to spend tens of thousands over a meme. This is on par with coca cola suing a store brand cola because they happen to taste the same. It's nonsense.

This is just an extended temper tantrum from furie because he's flustered that people don't care about his comic. His only claim to fame was a meme that hasn't even been related to his original work since 2004. If they changed the emote name it would hold no connection but whatever, it's just muh natzhees

Yeah. I don't think Furie actually owns smug pepe. The only thing connecting it to the original pepe is the name and pepe isn't a brand name.
