"Don't power off your PC while updating"
....
In before new thread: "why doesn't my computer work!!"
It will cause corrupted or missing OS files. Last time it happened to me was when a power outage hit. My system recovered but that caused update errors for Windows 10 1903 whereupon I was forced to do an in place update (reinstallation of Windows 10’s current version with updates included).
major update: may or may not get corrupted. i have seen my potato pcs recover sometimes and at other times i was forced to clean install due to boot loop installation error.
minor updates: more likely than not, windows will try to install again.
I had that happen before too! Except it was a network outage for me. The computer itself was fine, but my internet must have gone down for a brief second while a Windows was downloading the Fall update back when... ultimately resulted in a boot loop error
