Buying a PS3 in 2018 - i need advice

Im not sure if ive put this in the right section but im really needing some advice from people who have owned or who still do own a ps3 console. Long story short im wanting to play Tales of Xillia and various other games which WONT be coming to steam anytime in the near future.

Im looking at buying a ps3 console BUT ive been out of the console area for ages now and havent purchased a console since my first xbox360 bricked and i opened it up to see just how badly designed the console was (seriously a laptop fan!? wtf microsoft......) anyways im interested in buying HOWEVER ive found these issues and im kinda stuck and need some advice

1) the actual console itself - Normal fat, Slim - SUPER slim?

Is the SUPER slim actually designed and built better like how the ps2 slim was built better than the original ps2 80's looking model was? or is it actually a case of it being SUPER cheaply made?

2) Model numbers and firemare and everything else......

ok this is were i get seriously lost, i look on ebay for superslim or slim and i see things like Firemare 3.0, firemare 4.4, jailbroken, CSH1002 and CHS2004 etc etc and then oddly some which say DOWNGRADED from update? ......errr.....

Ive no clue what im looking at ps2 console wise because im not sure what any of this actually means

3) Online free or not?

i remember hearing ps network was free on ps3? but now you have to pay for it with ps4? i dont plan to play ANY games online but if i had a big hard drive i would want to download the games to the actual console itself so is there a store i can buy the games from on the ps network and are the games cheap or super expensive now? IE can i get tales of xillia on there for the same price on ebay or is it still asking 40+ for it

4) HDD removable or not?

I heard the ps3 consoles hard drive is an SSD and that its removable? is this true or is it a big fat HDD hard drive? if it is an ssd can i take it out and swap it into another console if the machine itself bricks out

5) The disk reader

straight up question - like the xbox+360+original ps2 is the disk reader on the ps3 crap. I expect to be playing like 5-6 hours straight on a friday/saturday night as this is the ONLy time i can game during the week UNLESS im mega lucky and get a day off during the week. IF i can get a big enough HDD (500gb) for the console i plan to put everything on that instead because i wont want to burn the laser out. If i purchased a disk version of the game can i install it to the hard drive directly? i just dont want junk like microsofts old original xbox THOMSON drive issue


6)psvita on ps3?

i heard some VITA games u can play on the ps3 if u purchase them from the ps network and diownload them to your hard drive. is this true coz i REALLY want to play persona 4 golden


7) The various ISSUES with the console itself

I know the xbox360 had a TON of issues with it from RROD to mega crap fans to dust issues to extreme over heating to some consoles actually catching fire and starting to smoke from the vents. So what can i expect with the ps3? is it ALSO poorly made with a crappy lattop fan which ISNT fit for the job its meant to be doing in the first place? can i expect the fan to be pushing MEGA hard and make a LOT of noise like the 360s does? can i expect the ps3 console to be so hot i could fry an egg on it?

Im just wanting a cheap ps3 were i can have a big ssd hard drive and NOT have to use the laser at all. Im wanting it to be fairly cool and not be super loud or get extremely hot. I just want one for playing some ps3 only games which i wont ever get the chance to play on my pc and if an issue DOES happen with the console i can get a replacement cheaply and just swap out the hard drives easy enough

any advice would be good because im really not sure what to do console wise with this one.

Yes, it's only for Vita, they didn't put it on any other platform at all. These are the changes, which is just a small expansion pack, nothing else.

-Two new Social Links (1 new character)

-Several new music track

-Additional Voice over

-New animated cutscenes

-More persona

-New Event like Ski trip

-New areas

-Garden feature

-New weather (thunder/snow)

-rebalanced some stuff

-daily activity in the game continue over a month in game.

-True ending has a new epilogue

I have an old school fat PS3 and i'd say that's the one to go with because you can play PS2 and PS1 games if also if that's what you're in to.
If you do decide to get a fat PS3 though i'd make sure it's one which is clean and well looked after because i had one die on me before, it just stopped reading discs all of a sudden.
It's still free to play games online but you have to pay for PS Plus where you get the discounts and free monthly games and i'd say get a HDD because the hard drive space on that model is pretty small but external hardrives are fairly cheap so it's not a problem,
The majority of PS3 games are super cheap so have fun.

Not all Fat PS3 play PS2 disks. You have to look for the specific models as they have the chip to allow them to play the PS2 disks. I knew about this when they started rolling out the 40GB models, which they took out the chips, which you couldn't play the PS2 disk games.

Also all you have to do is look up the Disk drive on ebay, and maybe you get lucky getting parts for it, if that's all was broken for it.

i have EVERY ps1 and ps2 game on my pc alrerady......as mental as this might sound in the past year and a half ive pretty much gone through everything aside from a few titles

im wanting a ps3 to play all the games i NEVER got to play because we didnt get them for pc. Like heavy rain, tales of xillia 1 and 2 and tekken tag 2 and dragons corwn and the last of us and various other games.

I didnt want to touch a ps3 upon release because ive seen how badly designed they are inside. To be honest the laptop fan inside the superslim isnt exactly winning me over but the inside of the console itself looks rather simple.....like a lot more simple than a ps2 and others. I mean you look inside a 360 and its no wonder why its had all the problems its had

Ive been talking to a LOT of people on ebat about buying the ps3 console from them but sadly alot of people are idiots and havent either flashed the hdd, have treated the console badly, havent cleaned them or are asking 120+....................i can get damn ps4 for 150.............
