How do I convince my brother that anime is lame?
My brother is 15 and he's a major anime nerd. I don't have a problem with anime but when you're running around yelling "BAKA" or "SUGOI!" then it gets a little irritating. He's turned into a major anime nerd and at this point, I don't think he'll ever get a girlfriend. He's so irritating, fat and out of shape like most other irritating anime nerds, he plays no sports, he's just a straight up loser. How can I convince him to change his ways and stop acting like a ugly little otaku? Or, How can i deal with him? Need advice ASAP! Before it's too late.

You can choose your friends but you can't choose your family.

And he is still a young and he will soon get out of that phase when he gets older just like me.

13-17 wasn't my proudest moments.

Anime isn't lame, it's a taste like every other genre. That's not bad at all and even older people like to watch anime.

The problem is that he's becoming something people call weeb/weeaboo and that's the most annoying thing you can imagine and one of the reasons people look down on the fanbase.

You shouldn't force him to stop or it may result in the opposite. Just give him a bit time and he'll maybe see he's just childish. Take him out and do some activities with him. Show him that you're a brother he can look up to.

i wouldn't shame him for liking anime but i would just try to get him into a better lifestyle, you mentioned he's fat so maybe boogie2988 could give him some weight loss inspiration, also he's starting to fit the definition of weeaboo since he's shouting japanese.

The teenage years are probably the worst part of your life when it comes to not acting like an idiot.

It's not the anime you need to discourage, it's his behavior. There are plenty of anime fans out there that are well behaved socially and you probably wouldn't even know they were fans unless they mentioned it. But most of them know there's a time and a place to geek out over their love of anime, but most of the time it isn't appropriate.

At 15, someone who is a full on anime otaku and can't turn it off, especially at school, is probably in for a rough time (i.e. getting bullied/picked on). Especially as that's a time when many teens, especially boys, really start putting those childhood things behind them, something anime will most likely be viewed as.

Now I'm not saying he has to completely hide it, but it sounds like he needs to be a lot more subtle about it. Like keeping a small thing visible like a picture* in his notebook cover or some other small thing for other anime fans to spot.

* But no scantily clad anime girls, especially ones that look underage. That's just asking for a whole different world of trouble. As a D&D player in the 80's, I was very careful of what kind of art I might put in my notebook cover, and always avoided the chainmail bikini (or similar) pictures.

as a hardcore weeb , my suggestion would be to calmly talk about it with him , being an Anime fan isnt bad or anything , its just a problem if you do it too much or like your Brother start pretending to know japanese ( i sometimes say hai instead of yes myself without really thinking about it

but like i said , do it calmly when i read your title i just expected some bait to get a flame war started

he doesnt need to stop enjoying anime or anything just tell him that its bad to say things just because he hears them in a show

its important to not start the conversation with anything thats anti Anime , wether you like them or not isnt important , he just needs to stop his bad habbit , just calmly tell him how stupid he looks while doing it

maybe you should show him some Sports anime so he starts actively doing sports himself ?

Agreed. You're not supposed to dictate his life, but how can a fan of anime who looks and acts like a w### be accepted in today's culture? At least encourage enthusiasm control. And encourage other genres, too. Some might inspire him.

You failed to be a role model for your brother.
Knock some sense into him

yep , most anime fans arent accepted that well , thats why its best to just act normal in Public ( on anime Cons i would always go participate in a karaoke contest or even try playing with a dancepad ( saw one at a con in october) and if i see someone who has nice cosplay i always ask them if i can take a photo ( i am way too shy to do that outside of a con , im quite shy , i also rarely mention i like anime , but on a con i know others are anime fans aswell so i go full weeb there)

Take him outside

Sit on a hill with the sun setting

Then shoot him in the back of his head.
let him live his life and you live yours...

It's not so bad at all times, especially when one's purposely acting like an idiot.
