Is it okay to use this word?
Is it okay to say the word, "hell," in an english class writing? I'm trying to use a metaphor and this would be the best word for my piece. (im in hs) I don't want to get into trouble.

I think it depends if u use it as a curse word or to describe something/some place :winter2019happyyul:

I don't see why that would get you into trouble unless your school is both super strict and super religious.
"Hell" isn't a curse word or anything.

Ok. so would something be like,

”the person from hell was taunting me” would this be a curse word or a place

its fine most of the time.

like the sentence "it was hell waiting in line this long" or "the vast amount of tourists was hell for the locals" are perfectly fine uses of the word.

in that context hell would be a place, hell is not really used as a swear word by itself although it can be used to emphasize a swear word such as the F word and hell on the end is commonly used for frustration.

From my uneducated point of view I think the word ''Hell'' is fine to use, especially in context to something that it represents as a sort of analogy or metaphor as you mentioned it but if it's used as a 'dirty' word to say in a demeaning context, I think that would be out of the question, unless it was used in the context of a quote, like someone said something... but even in that sense of the quote, I think it would be best to ehm, how do you say that? Not to blur it out but to like **** it. To hide or cover it.

Like 'H**l'. Or something, no?
Your use of the word is 100% appropriate

Not really. PTSD aside, no word is bad on itself. Rather than that, words are bad based on the context they're used in. People can be rude without saying mean words, as much as "Oh, you clever bastard" can be used to praise someone for being cunning. It's a matter of context.

Then again, there are some words where their use would be questionable, but in general one shouldn't rule out a word for being bad on itself. And it's certainly not the case with the word "hell".
Hell, I use it all the time.

You could replace it with "underworld" if that'll work.

it depends on what it is you are writing, what is this person you describe as being from hell?

I have to make an alternative ending and the protagonist hates the antagonist and feels like it’s a burden.
