In all my years of computer ownership, never have I had the PC on my desk. Maybe it's mostly due to a lack of room on any desk I've ever had, but I have always kept my PC on the floor.

I'm the opposite, in some 15 years my PC has either been on my desk or on a small table next to the desk.

The older PCs had monitors on top of the computers, so that might be how it got its name.

You should at least use a caddy or cradle to hold it up off the floor for ventilation.

putting your computer on the floor is a bad idea, buy a small tafel top to put it on.
the floor have a lot of dust when your PC is on the ground it's acts like a vacuum cleaner.
you don't wanna clean your PC after a year of 10......

Desktop computers are still a valid word, you can have a small form factor build mitx board and case, while simplier sulotion as AIO or NUC PC. But yea kinda agree with the name allthough i newer refer my pc as a desktop.

so do you call laptops as desktops now since due to heat, most people place laptops on their desks instead of their laps?
