I'm in a similar boat, actually. Although while I do regret having been born in my country, what I actually feel ashamed of is the behaviour that people of my nationality tend to exhibit in public areas. It really makes me want to shrivel up right then and there in the middle of the street when I see and hear it. It doesn't do me any favours personally/socially, either, because there's a chance I'll be pre-judged based on the attitudes displayed by these groups of people. Meh.

I'm not ashamed of things other people do. I've had a few shameful moments in my own life, but other people's faults are their own.
