Indie games with pixel art....
Am I the only one who is sick of these indie games using pixels? Particularly the ones that try to look like the NES or SNES? WE GET IT, YOU LOVE GETTING OFF TO YOUR NOSTALGIA! It was fine with Shovel Knight, but why do we have to have a gajillion of these indie games with pixel art that I can't tell the difference between that and Shovel Knight? Pick up a pencil and start doing hand drawn art already. It's getting old.

Waiting for the Nintendo 64/Playstion 1 platformer craze to come back. All with nice 3D polygons and full of collecting stuff and learning new moves.

get over it?
But there's way too many of them now. If you're just gonna make another NES styled game inspired by Mega Man, it's just the typical retro indie game and it won't look new.

Not everyone is an artist, and most of these indie devs are doing everything by themselves with almost no starting funds.

HD 4k Graphics = A lot of $$$$$ to make.

And a game's mechanics may not need them.

Because it's easy to draw and it looks presentable. Not everyone has the talent to draw detailed art, so they settle for pixel graphics which gets the job done and doesn't look crap.

Also as you implied with Shovel Knight, pixel art can look really, really good if done right. A good example in my opinion is Tangledeep, which has gorgous enviromental pixel art.

Also get ready for a flood of more of them

There is mountain of trash but when you dig a little you can find real gems, lot of them have better story then year's worth of AAA games combined.

It's easier to work into an Indie budget, it's easier to make look nice, and last but not least, people enjoy it.

It's really that simple, maybe give a few minutes of thought before ranting.

Because pixel art is easier when you actually can't draw for sh*t.
Example: Undertale :cocochan2:

Even by pixel art standards, Undertale just looks like crap.
