I would, but I know it's not funny *sobs uncontrollably*
Make a grocery list too, so you know what to get when you go to the grocery store and don't spend money on stuff not on the list. Also look for any coupons before you go. Look up extreme couponing for tips. Some people are able to get $100 grocery trips down to $10 with enough coupons, but you won't need to go to these lengths probably.
Usually my grocery choices don't even last that long either. This was an important lesson for me.
Thanks aunt.
i used to get fresh produce from the local shop in the nearby village, every week, i'd turn it all into food i can eat, usually i'd put it all into multiple big pans, they'd turn into stews and soups and other means, i'd freeze it after cooking and make sure they would be in portions so i can eat them, enough to last the week at least, but with covid-19, i've resorted to online food shopping.
The online aspect has made my life a bit more difficult on what i can get, but i usually have just enough to make the week. however i've sacrificed on extra stuff and spent most of what little i have on the side for more food so i have enough for several months in case of an unforeseen situation.
this is what i've had to put up with the last decade and a bit. it gets incredibly tight at times, sometimes to the point i have ration food by cutting back £10 or so because a bill is slightly more expensive than usual.
Buy cheap raw food and cook things yourself. If you can get filler, get it.
Only use your vehicle for when you NEED it. If you can walk to your destination then do so instead of wasting gasoline.
As other suggest a good buy is Pasta, cheap frozen veggies (if you have a freezer) and cheap meat for a few of the days. You can freeze those pasta meals as well (you will have plenty of left over)
Bread is cheap too, sometimes cheese/meat slices are as well.
I have lived for alot less, when I was a student long long ago. I still got to eat proper food, even beef, chicken, etc. Just don´t over buy stuff you don´t need.
It's a damn sight better than ramen somehow. Canned soup is another big one when money is fleeting.
Hot dogs if you're not too picky on the brand, but hot dog buns mold fairly quickly in some environments.
I'd say my food budget is about $40 a week, the things that bite in are condiments like mayonnaise. Soy sauce is cheap as hell.
Sometimes I resent the hell out of the dollar tree that came to my neighborhood. My car got stolen the week they opened, and it never came back.
