Profanity Filter
This post is just a minor rant about something irrelevant and likely unworthy of consideration.

It deeply bothers me that now Valve has decided to apply their profanity filter in people's personal profiles' infoboxes, summaries, and name under the username. Instead of just keeping it where it should belong, the forums and comment sections.

Before on your profile, you could type down any profanity word, and it would not be censored.
And this was never really a problem. For the most part, there was only mild profanity there.
But now they brought those little hearts there, too.

I think this filter is more suited for public forums and comment sections, and that personal profiles should just be left alone.

And now, even that isn't allowed. And it just doesn't sit well with me.
Does this bother anyone else, or am I just being too much of a crybaby here?

Interestingly enough, you can still use a profanity word in your main username.

Regardless. What are your thoughts on this?

Valve requires you to be 13 or older, therefore nobody should even raise an eyebrow about swear words.
But individual attitudes and sailor talk will usually get the wrong kind of attention. Nobody even needs say these swear words unless they're "sentence enhancers". Also certain medically accurate words got censored but they're how people yack at eachother in different parts of the world and we're pretty international here.
And yes that was another Spongebob reference.

I think that the profanity filter should be toggleable similar to how it is in Counter Strike Global Offensive
On by default but if it really bothers a user that much they can turn it off
I don’t know if it’s really possible (I have no idea how hard it is to code websites and apps) but it would be nice instead of everything being completely censored

It is.
Where can I turn it off

It would seem the filter had stopped working for some reason. At least on my side.

At least now I can tell if someone intentionally wrote heart characters just to be funny.

Is it working properly for you?
Comments on this forum, as well as one on my profile I had a friend post to test it were uncensored for me.
I didn't change the settings, and now they're replaced with hearts again.
Not sure what is going on.

Yesterday I turned the filters off, now they are back on. Will try to turn them off again.

EDIT: My settings say the filters are off, but they are still on. :P

If they actually think there's something under those hearts then that just proves they don't take the time to read posts thoroughly.

Or remember that there is something wrong going on with the new really well implemented feature.

I thought it was just me, figured changing my handle had some weird impact. Guess not.

I'd love if it was an optional thing

Before you view a store page with nudity or mature stuff, there's that portal asking for age and-or if you're okay with x or y. What about an option to opt in/out to see profanity or not see it.
