It just depends on your tastes
Or if your like me it depends if your getting sick of hate messages for being even slightly decent at a game
Yes, it is. But your mileage will vary. Playing with a group of friends is ideal, otherwise the game tends to be more frustrating.
Much less frustrating or toxic.
The majority are okay, but there are some who're intent on ruining other's fun in-game or those who take the game way too seriously and get overly passionate about winning... and overly upset with losing. It real boils down to what you can tolerate and ignore.
I'm pretty toxic myself so other toxic people don't affect me as much
(But if you see all i have played since the 90s there is probably an even distribution between single and multiplayer games i played. I think i have played a bit more SP though, at least i hope i did not waste too much time with toxic people.)
Now days, or well not just now, been like this since Ultima Online it's just a gank fest.
I did kinda like BGs in WoW though. Still preferred the mass wars of SWG.
even through that though, multiplayer games can get very boring. the cycle is repetitive and no matter how big the roster is, the reads will feel very similar and become tiring to output. pvp has its limits.
single-player allows for many more topics to be discussed. many more genres of games to try out. many rng systems that make gameplay satisfying in on itself. no infuriating server lag or annoying/toxic opponent behaviours. no more forum toxicity, as is present on most multiplayer games. just pure gameplay, of every kind. you can play at your own pace, and discover things in your own time. you get much more lore in single-player games, and a much more lively world. etc. single-player still has its limits, but those limits extend very far while still keeping the enjoyment factor high with its replay value. it could come from rogue-likes, which have randomized areas and item drops to give you a completely unique challenge every time. it could be exploration games like minecraft with extreme replay value because of all the adventures and shenanigans that could be had, and all the potential things to build. it could simply be because of the gameplay's very satisfying flow, that you would never be able to otherwise obtain with a pvp game. there's just so much to be had in single-player games.
so basically, the above is why i prefer single-player over multi. though multi still definitely has a bunch of ups, they're nowhere near the size of single-player. that's just opinion though. people might still get enough joy out of the general randomness of team-based pvp matches, or they might enjoy refining skill in a duelling ring. ive experienced both myself, but there are only so many unique multi-player games out there. that is why overall, i prefer single-player. it provides a sheer amount of variety and unique content that no multiplayer-focused game would be able to bring out.
