Good, jumpscare-free Steam horror games?
What are some good horror titles on here that don't have jumpscares, but simply unsettle the player using the environment, characters, story, and atmosphere? And also preferably not set in a dark spooky old house because I'm just so incredibly sick of that setting. Something like CONCLUSE [which I totally recommend btw] or the first three Silent Hill games, or even games that aren't explicitly horror, but have horrifying themes or segments [Half-Life 2's setting, story, and Ravenholm, Portal's eerie abandoned research facility setting]

I've heard a lot of good things about Death Stranding. idk, does it have jump scares?

Do they have to be FP perspective?

RE1 Remake (2 and 3 remakes don't have many but not like RE1R, the only real jumpscares like the dog scene aren't scary, more like "♥♥♥♥ I'm going to die"), it is scary house #999 though

Hellblade Senua's Sacrifice is an easy one for scary non-horror, Bioshock too

Oh yeah Death Stranding is sick, as long as you don't mind fetch quests, since that's the whole game. It's definitely on my list, even if the tone is more melancholy than scary. I can't remember any jumpscares in the playthrough I watched, but it is super weird, so I count it.

No way man, Yume Nikki and Undertale count too

Right, Bioshock! I gotta try that one, thanks for the reminder.

Thats a very broad meaning of horror game if you consider portal as one.

Maybe check out metro series, or fallout

I don't consider Portal or HL2 horror outright, I just like their creepy atmospheres and their horror elements here and there. It's the same reason I consider Neon Genesis Evangelion and Nadia Secret of Blue Water to be horror.

It is bad.
Stalker playing at night is unsettling.

Metro 2033/LL is mostly unsettling.

The Evil Within 2 is in parts unsettling.

It was but Amnesia has very few jump scares, it's mostly about building a sense of dread. It's not Amnesia's fault all the copy cat developers don't know how to make horror and just fill their games with cheap jump scares.

True only a few jump scares. I can legit only remember two. What about Soma? That was a creepy unsettling game.

This gets dark over time and its free.
I know the title says 'jump scares' but they are incredibly mild.

I read the title wrong.
I thought it said 'jumpscare free horror game' meaning free horror game hahah oof.
