He uses a virtual machine (probably on a piece of hardware he doesn't use any more too)

He uses linux and virtualises windows 10 inside it
He said that sometimes he even virtualises another computer inside of a virtual machine

Virtual Machines.

I used to test Microsoft Edge
& Windows Defender Application Guard on Viruses, & never got any to hit my Computer...

The Security Program Traps Viruses in a Virtual Space like a Virtual Machine...

But I dont trust the new Microsoft Edge & Sand Box to be anywhere near just as good...

He uses a virtual machine to run viruses. I don't recommend doing it yourself unless you really know what you're doing, as some viruses can break out of a virtual machine and onto your actual computer if you don't take proper precautions. But, if you want to try out a virtual machine there are several free options out there. All you need is a tutorial to set it up, as it can be kind of complicated at first.

There are also slightly more expensive ways of doing it. It's not uncommon to have a sacrificial PC to use for playing around with malware and unlike VM's there's zero risk of infecting your host PC as long as they don't share the same network.

The Virtual Machine that Application Guard uses, is completely Separate from Windows 10, & the Setup is quite simple, as it doesnt involve Installing a whole new OS to do it...

Its separate from Win10, because the Virus doesnt leave the Boxed Window, not unless you transfer the Virus induced Files to your Win10 through a Special Process, first...

When the Virus Attacks the Windowed Box, all ya gotta do is hit the X in the Corner, & the Virus disappears...

That he uses multiple virtual machines
Also, if you think he's in any danger by just visiting the deep web, you're mistaken

Kind of. It has a folder inside the OS only for the case of locking the program from the OS. Some uses registry to install outside of the folder to gain access of the OS and can be as simple to create new paths to a fake OS folder where the virus will install and locked-in. What you should be careful are viruses who are working like virtual machines because it goes in both directions. A virtual machine can be created to trap and it can be used to override the OS. That's why you shouldn't be using virtual machines to play videogames unless you know the source of the content.
