Can I bring a desktop and monitor on a plane as carry on?
Hello gamers. I am a college student and will be traveling via plane to my university. I am going to buy a pc and am deciding if I am able to bring my monitor (24 inch ben Q its in original packaging atm) and my pc. For the pc, im probably just going to get an NZXT one. So I haven't ordered my pc yet, but either way, I will still have to bring it to home and back eventually. My question is, what is the best way to get these 2 items from school and back. I have read you can take both on as carry on or checked luggage, just have to use very good packaging. Let me know if any of you have had any experience taking your comps via plane or what I should do.

:)

This is a question for the airline.
Dismantle everthing from mobo (especially those heavy cpu cooler and gpu). Send them through ups. Put some insurance on it

yes have to agree. Think it comes down to the size and dimensions of your pc as some of them wont allow as carry on if its above a certain size i think. i did see before someone taking their pc case on board but it was one of those small pc cases.

Ya, you deffinately wanna be very careful with how it's
packaged for delivery, & yes I can't see why you can't...
Also pay attention to the weight. You dont wanna pay overweight baggage fee.

Seriously, youd better off sending it thru ups
In the usa carry on can be no heavier then 40 pounds and be no longer then 45 inches for American airlines.

US Airways;‎: ‎22" x 14" x 19" 40 pound weight limit for carry on's.
Delta Airlines;‎: ‎22" x 14" x 9" Allows 1 carry-on bag and 1 personal item no weight limit for most routes.
United Airlines;‎: ‎22" x 14" x 9" No weight limit.
Southwest Airlines;‎: ‎24" x 16" x 10" No weight limit but if it don't fit under your seat it has to be placed in overhead bin.

You could just order the pc and monitor after you get to college.

If it's a Weight, or say for instance?
A Package Sizing issue...

Could you take out all the Parts, Store
them Separately, & just use the Case as
a Suitcase for other Items? This means
you would have a Bag & a Case, but
regardless you might not need an actual
Suitcase anymore then...
Even if the airline says OK, you could be mucked by the TSA. They can just say that the PC or monitor look nonstandard and not allow you to take them. No matter how wrong they are. Then you are stuck at the airport with these. Checked luggage is a safer way to go. The original packaging for the monitor should be enough. Have someone UPS them to you after you arrive is best. IMHO
Tell them your computer is your emotional support animal. Report back on results.
if you want customs to tear apart your tech then sure
I've brought a X360 and the controllers before.

As long as it fits in the allowable carry-on bags, I think you're good, but call the airline first.

You'd need a pretty small monitor to fit in your bags, though.

You could get a small HD projector, and that would fit, plus it's nice to have a 100" screen.
Go ahead and bring your Television, Car, and backyard swing set too.
If it fits under your seat or the overhead, but seriously they won't allow that. Box it up with plenty of good packing material and hope for the best.
