I somehow find a lot of fun in it even with the fact it's pretty basic looking

Totally agree with you on Arkham Origins. Arkham Origins was a more memorable game to me than Arkham city.
Arkham Knight got too bogged down with the Batmobile centered gameplay.
Sometimes you just need to keep a game simple to make it fun.
Fire Emblem Fates: Conquest - Easily one of my all-time favorite games and my 2016 Game of the Year. A dark fantasy epic in it's own right, it unfortunately got tons of criticism for not living up to the massive expectations imposed upon it, and a lot of the biggest criticism directed by the "hate it" part of the fandom is it's story, characters and localization. If you ask me, the writing's THE strongest part of the game. Conquest!Corrin's easily my favorite protagonist in the series for his sympathetic motives, his ideals which I agree with strongly, and how he owns up to his mistakes over the course of the story. Add that to amazing characters (Xander, Elise, Arthur, Charlotte, Benny, for starters.) and some of the best - and most brutally hard - gameplay in the series, and you have a masterclass game, at least I think so. #ProudToBeNohrianScum
Tokyo Mirage Session #FE - Like a lot of people, I was pretty disappointed that Shin Megami Tensei x Fire Emblem wasn't a classic cross-over, and I get why people are disappointed. However, that doesn't justify calling the game terrible when it's still an extremely fun game. The characters are quite likable and silly in the best way possible (with my personal favorite being Tsubasa; seriously, she's just adorbs), the story never takes itself seriously also in the best way possible, and I can safely say that the combat system's the best gameplay in any Shin Megami Tensei game to date. Add in to the fact that it's basically the JRPG equivalent of Command and Conquer: Red Alert 3, and you have a game that manages to be some of the most criminally underrated gems ever.
Civilization: Beyond Earth - Believe it or not, I actually like this game MORE than Civilization V. It probably has to do with the different concept: while Civilization V makes your head hurt how historical figures are immortal and leading their respective nations to glory, Civilization: Beyond Earth actually has a surprisingly well-done story to be told in it's codex and backstory. I legit had a ton of fun reading through the lore, and the idea of mankind taming the wild, alien frontiers of extraterrestrial planets is just incredible. I personally recommend you give the game a go, though the base game is a substantial improvement due to some incredible mods being exclusive to the base game. I can't play my Civilization: Beyond Earth without any Nordic Union or Japanese Empire, after all!
Fallout 4 - While I am in agreement that Fallout 4 is a mediocre Fallout game and a far cry from the complexity of the earlier Fallout games, once I've got past my disappointment with this game, I've actually began enjoying it a LOT more. The story is simple, but it gives an interesting conflict between the Commonwealth's four factions. I also genuinely liked the settlement building and weapon customization, and the gameplay's some of the most fun I've ever had with a Bethesda game. If you still want this game (and presuming the Creation Club dies like the sack of crap it is), I recommend going into it wtih a Skyrim mentality than a Fallout mentality. Regardless, I'd wholly recommend it if wasn't for the Creation Club. Like seriously, go ♥♥♥♥ yourselves, Bethesda.
The Secret World - No, I am not talking about Secret World Legends. Yes, I am talking about The Secret World. Before the game was revampled into an unidentifiable, pay-2-win insult to the original standard of quality the older version presented, it was genuinely a masterclass of MMO gameplay, being some of the most damn fun I've ever had with a MMO, or game in general. On top of having a fantastic story (a rarity for an MMO) with some extremely interesting worldbuilding, the game forgoes the sin of the droll grinding usually found in MMOs by making combat classless, and only limiting your imagination to metagaming in PvP and endgame dungeons. The game was a legit masterwork of writing and gameplay, and I cannot say it enough that Secret World Legends is a slap to the face of everything Ragnar Tornquist did for the series. Seriously, ♥♥♥♥ you Funcom for ruining the only MMO I've ever had fun with, you bastards.
There's more, but I don't feel like polluting the thread with more of my ramblings, unless people are further interested to hear what else I like that's underrated.
Midway had some hidden gems like that game, for sure. Primal Rage, San Francisco Rush, Mace the Dark Age and Revolution X (the home ports weren't that bad....). Love a lot of their games while growing up.
Area 51 was literally one of the games that got me into FPS games. (aside from Jedi outcast, frickin love that game)
