What games give you the most FREEDOM?
I would say either Deus Ex or Vampire: The Masquerade. Both let you have mutliple types of skills and ways to solve an issue as well as being able to talk to people and gain new information and pretty much skip parts you don't want to do. New Vegas does this too.

Think Fallout 1, Fallout 2 and Fallout New Vegas had a lot of freedom. You could join the bad guys, solve problems in several different ways, etc.

The only way Elder Scrolls could have even more freedom would be if there was voxels, and the ability to do what you can do in The Forest, (or upcoming Forest 2) or Minecraft, or that new voxel-based heist game, like cut down trees or dig an actual hole in the ground.

And I mean, cut objects like trees or walls, at any dimensional point you choose, and use the resulting logs to build a new structure. Or dig holes in any soft soil, with the resulting hole being approximate to the actual dimensions of your shovel blade. And put an object in the hole, and cover it up again and tamp down the dirt.

I don't think that's going to happen with any Creation Engine games, but it would be, IMO, the only way to have even more freedom in an Elder Scrolls game. I still love the lack of gravity on placed objects in Morrowind, somehow even better than the physics in the sequels. The impossible things you could build out of objects was wonderful.

Sadly, the trend in Elder Scrolls games is, I believe, going to be less freedom -- not more.

I am not even completely sure that there will actually be a new one.
This kind of games is the opposite of what make games profitable: big - if not huge, take a look at Daggerfall map - open world single player games that are meant to last as long as the player wants and give him ways to play and have fun beyond the goals that the developers established.
In the past something like that was mind blowing, but making something like that is like ACTUALLY HONEST non-profit activity
