Recommendations for territory conquering games?
I love games where you conquer lands/territories/areas, perferably to hold back an enemy or something. I do like Civ and other RTS and Turn-based games like that but I'm looking for something along the lines of how in Far Cry 4 you can take control of bases to expand your area of control or like in Assassin's Creed Black Flag where you take over sections of the ocean. Obviously I would prefer this game to be on Steam but would also accept non-steam PC or PS3/4 games. I also prefer single-player games but am open to the possibility of MMOs or whatever. Territories don't necessarily have to be the main focus of the game. Thanks for your recommendations!

Check Paradox games, lots of conquest to be done in them.

Europa Universalis 4 is a great game.
Stellaris is in space, like 11 dollars on Humble Bundle.

Dungeon Keeper is really good if you want a conquest game. Not on Steam, but the games are on sale right now on GoG.

Overlord is one that I have never played, but sounds like it might be what you would be looking for. That one is on Steam.

Total war series (if you want to counquer a lot of territoris i recomend you empire total war it have biggest map in series) and also mount and blade warband but it would be probbadly better to wait for mount and blade bannerlord which will be newest game in their series.

Yes. Check Paradox. Crusader Kings is a great example.

Joining the current combat in a first person shooter style would make it still challenging while positioning soldiers in other combat areas would add a RTS character.

I would have bought such a game if it would exist and I'm constantly searching all the games in steam and elsewhere.

Edit: Look for the very old dos game "burntime" ;-P

Valkyria Chronicles.

Turn based tactical, and you move your soldiers in first person, get hit by interception fire, rush for cover, etc. It's more JRPGish than territory conquering tho.

Red orchestra 2 heroes of stalingrad might interest you it have similar gamemod that you seek of but that gamemod is only in multiplayer. It goes like this you have map of stalingrad which is turned into territoris both teams can vote to attack or defend, if you win a round you can vote again to attack or defend, when they choose territory that they want conquer they must choose map in that location and them fight for it in real time.

This. It's my favourite Grand Strategy game. There's ton of meta to learn and it's intuitive to pick up as a beginner
