Newdoom is a flashy style-over-substance joke that has none of the genius map designs of the original and everything good about it was ripped off from the original Brutal mod.
DOOM4 has plenty good map design, what are you talking about?
sure it sorely misses the none-linearity of the original, but that's more than made up for with the dynamic combat
turth of t he matter is, that i never managed to finish the original doom games because it became too repetetive and boring. being stuck in an empty map looking everywhere for that one switch or door that allow you to finish the level can really be annoying.
but yes, i do agree that it was in fact Wolfenstein:new order that kickstarted the new fps golden age,
which is even more poetic because WOLF3D was the original grand daddy of all fps games
Serious Sam series is a brainless horde shooter with absolutely NO enemy AI or intellectuality.
Some of my favorite FPS is Far Cry 4, Wolfenstein New order / Old Blood, HALO Master Chief Collection, Metro Exodus etc
I did like the sci-fi CoD Infinite War, but the black OP and new Battlefield stuff is not pulling me in. ArmA stuff is clunky compared to all the pew pew MMS of late. I still like ArmA though.
Quake 3: Arena was a competing Game to Valve's Half-Life Game...
Funny enough, both Doom Eternal & Quake Champions focuses on
the very same Gimick that made Quake 3: Arena so impressive all these
Years... Only difference, is that Doom Eternal & Quake Champions have
much better Graphix & Visuals to show for them over Quake 3: Arena...
However, Quake 3: Arena had "Free Massive MOD Support" & an
"Expansion Pack" making it still a better Game in terms of being Enjoyable
for the Gamers goes... Quake 4 had improved on all of this, but also included
a Story Mode, but never actually got off the Ground before being forgotten...
------------------------------------
Right now:
Doom Eternal & Quake Champions Wins In Terms Of Space Age FPS Games
Right now:
Nothing Wins In Terms Of Military FPS Games, MAG & Bad Company 1 were
my fave Military FPS Games, both were extremely Unique, & had impressive
Gameplay Elements that can't be rivaled by other Games before them, nor
after them...
Battlefield 4 to me has the largest Visually Stunning MAP's, but Battlefield 3
seems to have the best overall Visually Stunning & Heart Pounding Story Mode,
as well as the best Controller friendly Gameplay Experience in 1 Game...
---------------------------------
Reason for how much Gamers are liking the New format for FPS Games,
is that Quake 3: Arena, Quake 4, Doom: Eternal, & Quake: Champions all
have something that other FPS Games don't have... That is support for
Unlimited FPS, Very Stable Gameplay, & the 2 New Games have support
for quite the very nice Visuals...
However, if I were to compare Doom: Eternal to Quake Champions,
i'd say Quake Champions would win... Reason was I was able to Play
Quake Champions without issues, & Doom Eternal was unable to be
Launched in the Early stages for both Games...
It's one of maybe 4 games coming out that have me a bit hyped.
(the others are Serious Sam, CyberPunk 2077 and Horizon Zero Dawn)
I love Doom 64 and Quake 1. I haven't tried Doom Eternal yet I don't expect it to be THAT good (as Doom 64 and Quake 1) but I'm really curious and I think I could like it enough and I think that I will buy it when I will see a good deal (probably not at full price after all we all know that sooner or later every game will be on discount so why not to wait a bit? :P )
FPS is absolutely not my favourite genre but as long as the setting is interesting and fascinating with a lot of fantasy elements in it then I absolutely like it.
I dislike normal military fps games (realistic military games in general) that honestly I don't even know exactly what are different in the gameplay of those games... I just don't like them and avoid them. I would not play them even if they were the same as Doom or Quake with just different skin. It's just something that I don't like (and I know some of them have zombies which are not exactly realistic but I don't like zombies either so those games with zombies are on the same boat of realistic games for me, I don't like them, I just avoid them)
:)
Paragraph Nazi.
& love getting into the Space Aged type Games in the past, but
i'm starting to prefer more Military based FPS Games now,
because well? They aren't so popular to Develop by Devs anymore...
BF3 has impressive Story & Visuals
BF4 has impressive Multi-Player Styled Map Setups
Bad Company 1 has a hugely entertaining Story full of laughs, fun, exploring,
& The 3 Kings Movie References that I found interests in with the Game...
MAG: May not be the most Visually looking Game, it may not have a Story Mode,
but it's Online Gameplay Elements, Anti-Camping, Anti-Cheating,
User Friendly Bug Reporting, Large Map Sizes, Large Player Based Maps,
Experience Skill Tree, Char Classes, impressive Team Work, & amazing Leaderships,
is just from my View Un-Beatable no matter what Game you compare it to...
The only complaints about MAG ever from my understanding had come
from Gamers who joined way too late in the Game's Life Cycle, everyone else
has basically said they loved the Game...
----------------------------------------------
I forgot to add... What sets MAG & Battlefield from other FPS styled Games,
like COD? Is that Battlefield & MAG use much larger Map Sizes...
Larger MAP's provide a the Option to Innovate, get Creative, & change
formulas around a bit, but when you got Smaller MAP's, it's harder to
do this, because your MAP's are too small to do anything Unique with...
It's why all the Multi-Player Portions of each COD Game look & resemble
the same formula over all the Games of the Franchise...
