How exactly do these rope traps work?
There's a rope hanging from a tree, and the bottom of the rope touching the ground is made into a loop, and somehow by the power of logic, stepping in the middle of it without even touching the rope makes it somehow pull, wrap around your leg and instantly hang you from the tree.

How the ♥♥♥♥ does this work?

I think it's activated when you "pull" with your leg when walking without seeing it.
There is somebody holding onto the other end, somewhere in the trees. When you step in the right spot, they jump from the tree and use their weight to pull you up.

Or it's supposed to be a snare trap, but nobody in Hollywood knows how a snare trap works.

Someone has expirience in catching humans?

Or just wild animals.
In most films you tend to see people jumping out of the trees after the character is caught, so I'm gonna assume there's a reason for that besides advancing the story.
It's a cliche, used by lazy writers, to put the hero into a helpless position where they are at the mercy of a side character and have to talk their way out while the other character attempts to rob them of their valuables, or mistakes them for a thief.
