How do disable showing CD Key's?

This is Steam Releated, but I don't know which forum to put this in to prevent deletion.

If you're streaming a new game, it shows the CD Key twice on screen. How do you perma disable Steam showing you 'this is your cd key, if you ever need it, press this button to copy it' at least twice when you start a new game.

I can tab out, goto my library and copy the cd key from the game page.
And I've yet to find a game released in the last 10 years that needed one.

Trolls aside. I know streamers are in the minority here. Doesn't it make sense to simply put asterisks when it shows you the cd key on screen, or a button next to 'copy key to clipboard' that says - 'click to remove asterisks' - I doubt anyone has ever had a use for seeing their full CD Key on screen, but I'm curious if they did.

I'm gonna try pripyat to see if it still needs the cd key for mp. (dam that means I need to uninstall misery - doh)

no, it does not "Make Sense". They system shows YOU your key. The fact that you are streaming is a new edition to an existing system that has worked for ages.Why would they star your key, for your game, on your steam account. if you can't figure out how to turn it off, which is super easy to do, then simply don't stream for 30 seconds after you launch the game. Or, shocker, turn your steam overlay off, like you should while streaming anyway.

It seems that misery MP is dependent on GameSpy, which is no more. So can't test that.

Yeah, actually. If you need game specifics, I will need a minute. I think is was Delta Force Xtreme. I will need to scroll through the games with CD keys for conformation though.

This is probably one of the reasons I don't see the steam overlay in twitch as much as I do on youtube, main thing it's useful for in stream is showing achievements. I don't see a way to hide that prompt outside of having steam overlay enabled and running the game. So it means the game will need to be ran prior to streaming it.

I have done both. Steam didn't used to let you copy them. I actually have games with physical copies with the keys on a card in the box.Borderlands the Presequel comes to mind for that. So does The Wolf Among Us. That was just a card though. Zero box.

Cool. I had a use for it in one game, years ago, it may have been Quake 3, don't remember. I copied to clipboard, but couldn't paste it in game, so had to tab out and paste it into notepad.

I counted 45/450 games have a CD Key in the library.
I want my CD Keys, not arguing that at all. It's our right for purchasing the game to have it.
Hell, I used keys for X3:TC and X3:AP and a few other games to link them to my account on the developer's website, which proved ownership and unlocked ever more stuff in game.
For those, I went to my library to get the CD Keys.

I simply don't want Steam, by default, showing me the full CD Key on screen. (picture having the world looking over your shoulder as you play - you'd be a bit paranoid about that as well)

Similiar to a game that features borderless windowed fullscreen, but disables sound in the background, when you tab out - the music silences. It's useful to keep the music going for your stream, but as a non-streamer, you don't want that music in the background because you maybe watching a stream.

I doubt you've ever found it useful that the CD Key that's initially displayed when you load a new game is fully visible on screen. It may have felt good knowing it's there. But they could've hidden all characters except the last 4, like a credit card number, and had a button below that said (click to show cd key) - you'd get that same feeling.

they can copy and use it but you ALONE is the legit owner. they can drool for all eternity...

I think Valve is of the opinion that there's no harm in streaming your product keys. If you do care about it, it's easy enough to (temporarily) put up an overlay over the portion of the screen with the pop up in your feed.
