What defines a persons sexual identity?
Hopefully the mods dont lock this. I think this could be an interesting discussion if we can keep it adult and civil. But anyway here goes.

What defines a person's sexual identity? Is it only a matter of which sexual organs you prefer? Or does masculinity and femininity play a role?

Example: I wouldn't be attracted to a masculine female. Even though she would have the right sexual organs for me. I would find it a turn off if she had really short hair, was always wearing flannel shirts and blue jeans, drinks beer, watches football, and drives a lifted pick up.

My wife is very feminine and that is one of the things that attracts me to her. I like that she paints her nails, watches chick flicks, and drives a cute little car.

So now to the heart of the matter. If a person identifies as homosexual, what does that mean? Are they gay only because they are attracted to people with the same organs as themselves? Or are they attracted to masculinaty and femininity? What attracts a gay man to another man that looks and acts feminine? What attracts a woman to another woman that looks and acts masculine?

Keep it clean and civil people

Hard to do nowadays. Especially people who demand "tolerance" from others, yet they always show intolerance to the well documented opinion of people who happen to disagree with them.
so you want tolerance for you intolerance
cool let me know how well that logic works for you
Tolerance and politcal correctness of homosexuality is a different discussion. One that Id like to avoid if at all possible.

I'm more curious about what makes a person define themselves as gay or straight and what role masculine and feminine play

I don't want anything, much less "demand", unlike others. And i certainly nowhere said, or hinted at, not accepting others. I don't like double standards much; one side's opinion is "free speech", while the others' is "hate speech"... Everyone has the right to express an opinion; especially since it is backed up by scientific data.

Ok, I've now asked you 3 times for this data.

You've come up empty.

Therefore you are full of it.

More importantly, please stop pretending like it's settled science that transgenderism is a mental illness.

it doesnt play a role.

it might play a role in redefining words from their current understanding or it might be a reflection of ones ignorances on what the words mean but in general no conneciton at all

free speech can be hate speech it is still part of free speech but some of that hate speech gets

Finally a gay person! Yay!

So had to define your sexual orientation. Would you say that it is purely physical? If your husbands sexual organs were to change, would you feel the exact same way about him?

In all honesty I am not certain. We have been married almost 2 years and together 6. I am bonded to him emotionally, but sexually I would be forced to admit I would not be satisfied.
I'm sorry if I'm asking too personal of questions. But this is an aspect of human nature that I do not understand.

I'm a male that is attracted to feminine females. Too me those two criteria are what define my heterosexuality.

Now I imagine that if I were gay then imagine that I would be the polar opposite and would want to be with a masculine male.

Gender dysphoria = transgenderism??

that would be called re-defining words and asking others to make up definitions.

Would you shut the hell up tux! I'm not asking for Webster's definition of sexual traits.

I'm asking people to personally explain what defines their sexual orientation

And "classification as a disorder"

Um, how can you misread a Wiki article?

Seriously?

GID or gender dysphoria is specifically related to any psychological distress stemming from gender identity issues.

It does NOT mean that transgenderism is a mental illness.

Learn to read your own sources, please.

And that is how I was as well for a long time too, but my tastes have gone from the stocky blue eyes blond haired athletic gay to the other end of the spectrum. Short, slim effeminate guys. I have no answers as to why, just that my tastes began to change around 18 or so

No, but it has bibliography. I can't expect you to read anything, though, since you even avoid to read 1 page... I will keep it simple for you, in just one paragraph, then.

"Gender dysphoria or gender identity disorder (GID) is the dysphoria (distress) a person experiences as a result of the sex and gender they were assigned at birth. In these cases, the assigned sex and gender do not match the person's gender identity, and the person is transgender."

Just to reinforce this - you omit the distress part completely, that actually makes it a disorder.

God.

And what causes a person to become transgender, pray tell, if it isn't "gender dysphoria"?

Are you kidding me?

Did you not understand what dysphoria means?

Do you literally believe the distress caused by gender identity issues, causes gender identity issues?

Sigh. This is why Trump is in power, and Brexit might happen.
