What defines a persons sexual identity?
Hopefully the mods dont lock this. I think this could be an interesting discussion if we can keep it adult and civil. But anyway here goes.

What defines a person's sexual identity? Is it only a matter of which sexual organs you prefer? Or does masculinity and femininity play a role?

Example: I wouldn't be attracted to a masculine female. Even though she would have the right sexual organs for me. I would find it a turn off if she had really short hair, was always wearing flannel shirts and blue jeans, drinks beer, watches football, and drives a lifted pick up.

My wife is very feminine and that is one of the things that attracts me to her. I like that she paints her nails, watches chick flicks, and drives a cute little car.

So now to the heart of the matter. If a person identifies as homosexual, what does that mean? Are they gay only because they are attracted to people with the same organs as themselves? Or are they attracted to masculinaty and femininity? What attracts a gay man to another man that looks and acts feminine? What attracts a woman to another woman that looks and acts masculine?

Keep it clean and civil people

humans are also retarded. if you cut your ♥♥♥♥ off and call yourself a chick you are mentally ill
I don't disagree that it is weird to do so. However I whole heartedly believe that people should have the right to do so if they please
oh yeah sure, that's fine. But that doesn't make them any less ill just because they have the right

Say for example 100 people come into the room and the leader of that room says ok, we need to get this group organized. so everyone with a first name starting in A-C has to wear make up.

That is arbitrarily assigning attributes to people based on Name, it could be based on genitals. However that parsing of attribute assignments is not related to a persons sexual desires which are instead biological even if the attribute assignment is based on gentails

Since I can only speak for myself, the whole masculinity/femininity does play a role in who I find attractive and in what degree/manner. I couldn't care less about them being male/female.

I wouldn't take anything he says seriously.
Pretty much.

Women want to be with a masculine figure because it helps them realise their full feminine self confidently. I would guess it's the same way with gays and lesbians so they act like either the masculine or feminine half. A woman doesn't want a man who is a pushover because it makes her to compensate and be more masculine in certain situations. A man does not want a "manly" woman because he doesn't get to be protective over her and feel masculine.
So your saying that masculinaty is attracted to femininity and vice versa?

If this is true then why bother being gay? Why would a woman choose a masculine female over a masculine male?

Why does a straight guy only choose feminine females? Why not masculine females, or feminine males?

Sexual orientation is all biological (or perhaps nurtured in some cases), i'm saying that straight women are attracted to masculine men and feminine lesbians are attracted to masculine women. This is because it helps reflect with their own femininity and lets them explore it.

So if sexual organs are irrelevant to you, does that make you straight, bi, or gay?

Normal or ABNORMAL pairing of chromosomes. The pairing of X and Y chromosomes defines what a person's sexual identity is, a.k.a. what gender they identify as. You can have a male specimen claiming to be a female trapped inside a foreign body (out-of-body-experience fashion) and vice versa. Wrong or ABNORMAL chromosome pairing, besides gender dysphoria, also cause a plethora of psychological issues and if left untreated, they develop in dire psychiatric cases. The fact that society encourages some people's delusions of being something else to that which they already are, doesn't help much, i am afraid... In older eras, they would be given psychiatric treatment, instead.

And thus science was defeated.

Mass shock therapy for everyone deemed unacceptable.

Good times.

Is it just me or did the level of conversation drop to 'psychos-speak-out'?

I know in my case as a gay guy I have always known I was "different" and was attracted to boys since kindergarden that I can remember. Of course back then I knew nothing of identities, or even what sex was etc. I just had a felling that I was different and should keep it to my self.

Now "what exactly" you are attracted to can be fluid and change.

In my case, I remained in the closet very deeply and played sports - particularly baseball, which I was very good in. This is where I met the person I first fell in love with and had a relationship with. He was pretty much exactly like me. Into sports, and playing games mostly and I had a huge crush on him from the first day we met and we became fast friends from the first day of middle school and into our Freshman year of HS, which is when one thing led to another so to speak at a sleep over and he confessed he felt exactly the same about me all along.

His parents ended up finding out about us though and within two months they moved :"/

Anyways, I retreated back into the closet for the rest of HS and then at 20 met my now husband.

He is shorter and completely un masculine and does not like sports and is a furry and otaku. My 14 year old self would have never come to like a guy like that, but somehow we just clicked and fell madly in love.

Lol, guess I went off on a tangent there though, but my main point was that you cannot change what you are attracted to or what you are as far as orientation (in my opinion) but you can change what your prefererence within that is. (again simply from my experience as a sample of one)

Yea this was the kind of crap I was trying to avoid.

I was more curious about what criteria people use to define their own sexual orientation

I guess in the most logical sense [to me at least], bisexual I suppose. I've had long-term relationships with both male and female partners so I guess bisexual makes the most sense if I were to label myself.
