What happens to Valve if Gaben retires?

Why would he "RETIRE" Valve is a privately owned company. Owned specifically by Gabe. He doesn't even have to work. He does so because he is a good business man.

Why would he retire though. Even if he stayed home all day, he is still the owner of Valve, makes the same money, and is the King of PC gaming, even if he were to require a walker and yelled about kids and lawns. He would still run the company, just through a proxy.

I always thought big companies always have a backup plan for in case something happens to the leader. So if the main boss is gone, there is a second boss who is directly under the main boss in the company ranks.
