Windows 7, 8 or 10?

I'm using windows 7 currently, it's the operating system I've always used and I'm perfectly happy with it. I see no reason to update to 10 so I'm not going to do that. I know 7 isn't futureproof, but when it stops getting updates & support I'll probably move to linux. I don't want to update to 10 because of Microsoft's ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ spying (I'm pretty sure it happens on 7 too but it looks worse on 10) and because of compatibility with older apps. Linux looks to be the best solution in the coming years because of increased developer support and awareness, and because you can just use PlayOnLinux if games are not available. Although, from personal experience Linux has terrible driver support and will be a slight learning curve for me, though I am well acquainted with it.

So, what are you going to do in the coming years? Are you happy with your operating system? Will you upgrade any time soon?

given modern government paranoia why is this even a surprise? ....historically (old enough to remember) microsoft has ALWAYS done this! they even got caught but now it's helpful .........like google..........and facebook ......modern life

oh and if you go to 10 for god's sake clean install as the "upgrade" only needs a 2 minute google to explain ! if you love random faults do that!

The one I use right now is Windows 10, and honestly, it's fine. It's just a shame I can't make my desktop look like Windows Classic like you could with Windows 7.

The government gets giant piles of data and doesn't know what to do with it; it's the companies that are more annoying because they data-mine it for advertising purposes. And unlike the government, which does a thankless job of trying to prevent disasters and getting flamed by ingrates when it fails, the companies have a big profit motive for data-mining people.

Regardless of who, though, I've basically accepted that everyone wants my data. So instead of trying to hide everything, I should just be helping them build a profile of me that I want them to have.

The government shouldn't be spying on citizens

The only time I agree with spying is when you got a warrant and have enough evidence to support that something criminal is involved, unfortunantly, innocent civis are getting caught up in government spying. The United States isn't the only culprat though, China, Russia, etc.. are worse but that isn't an excuse.
