Windows 7, 8 or 10?

I'm using windows 7 currently, it's the operating system I've always used and I'm perfectly happy with it. I see no reason to update to 10 so I'm not going to do that. I know 7 isn't futureproof, but when it stops getting updates & support I'll probably move to linux. I don't want to update to 10 because of Microsoft's ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ spying (I'm pretty sure it happens on 7 too but it looks worse on 10) and because of compatibility with older apps. Linux looks to be the best solution in the coming years because of increased developer support and awareness, and because you can just use PlayOnLinux if games are not available. Although, from personal experience Linux has terrible driver support and will be a slight learning curve for me, though I am well acquainted with it.

So, what are you going to do in the coming years? Are you happy with your operating system? Will you upgrade any time soon?

8.1 is horrid, your desktop isn't a desktop, and every Microsoft app is fullscreen. Recently got 10 and it's better by a million times imo.

Ohhhh, right. I forgot to mention. I got Classic Shell and Classic Start Menu. I don't use Windows's own apps. I just use Win8.1 the same way I used Win7 and WinXP: Download and run my own suite of programs, without relying on built-in stuff, aside from File Explorer and other basic utilities.

That said, 8.1 is actually the improvement; it's 8 that is the horrid one.

7 for sure but pretty sure you need win 10 later.
Win 10 need a clean installation or stop specific services when first startup.

Im running Win2000, WinXP, WinVista, Win7, Win8 on different machines.... i refuse to go Win10!

I'm actually curious why one has that setup. Haha

lol true, after windows 2000 he should not really complain about anything neither if he choosed Vista.

In short, it stopped presuming that everyone was on a tablet, by (re)introducing features that are more suited to desktop users.
Not the only differences, though.

If windows 10 causes massive legal problems for microsoft and are forced to stop the spying then maybe switch to that.
If not, get basic machine for general use (with linux), and have a windows 10 machine for gaming only. A KVM swich or something similar may be a good investment also if that happens.

Personally I don't use, search, or use personal information on Windows 10 where possible and just do it on my phone while I wait for that lawsuit to arise.

10, since Microsoft will drop support of every other OS in 2019. So your only choice will be Linux (That wont' play most of your games) or Windows 10. Also every game after 2019 will be developed for Windows 10
