What's a "Succubus" ?

Been fiddling through European mythology (Plus a side quest in Witcher 3 which involves a "tanky" succubus), and got curious on what is she.
Care to indulge me?

Sounds like some girls i've dated before. One was a witch who i looked up once online years later to see what she was upto, and found her in a music video about sacrificing some guy to asteroth. Another was a scottish girl with BPD and a wild temper, who was a bit witchy too. They both tried to piss me off all the time and had very little success. I'm pretty sure Freud would say it's because my mother has those qualities that i'm drawn to them, but i now recognize how self destructive it is, and look for healthier relationships.

And people wonder why i've been single for so long. But it's not like my experiences with males have been much better. If males want to look down on women, then maybe try not to be every bit as treacherous and sadistic as some women can be. In terms of raw data men are way ahead of females for murder and generally being full of ♥♥♥♥.

But i'm becoming content with celibacy now, and the idea of leaving no children here is also more and more appealing. Sorry to disappoint any potential succubi. I think i might be adapting because it was my only weakness and i expect someone to try to exploit it. Hopefully i reincarnate somewhere nicer where i can live a good life with good people and don't have to distrust everyone.

So much modern oversexualized crap is added to this mythology.
Succubus was evil spirit who bothered young men during their sleep by sitting on their chest and basicly suffocating them. It was not a sultry seducer but horrible old hag.
The most likely explanation to appearance of this mythology is sleep paralysis.

One section:


"In some myths, the Rusalka was beautiful, with long hair and luminous green eyes, while in others, she was ugly and covered in hair. She might take a man or child away to live with her on the riverbed, or appear as a Succubus, tempting a man to have sex with her over and over again, until he became utterly exhausted. In this way she would draw his life force out of him, and use it to sustain herself, in vengeance for a wrong that had been done to her in life.
