How is it that TLOU2 is hated while Uncharted 4 is praised?

I've recently forced myself through Uncharted 4 and it's one of the most dull and boring experiences I've had in gaming.

Sure, it looks stunning, but there's no platforming gameplay in a game that has platforming! You just linearly push a button and watch the back of a dude climbing some rocks and walls, then do some extremely barebones pewpewpew, then exposition, rinse and repeat.

That game is widely acclaimed by players and critics alike.

Meanwhile TLOU2, which has simple yet fantastic hit&run stealth, brutal combat, wide open arenas resulting in unpredictable cat&mouse gameplay, is treated like it's the work of satan himself.

I'm at a complete loss. Even if you dislike TLOU2's plot, you gotta give the game credit for being a great GAME, unlike the colorful snoozefest that Uncharted is.

But what would you want for the characters? A happily ever after? The Last of Us is a very grounded representation of the state of humanity.

It's not the Disneyland version of post-apocalypse like Fallout 4 or Mad Max (the game). It's the version where no one is perfect and everyone does bad things to survive and people get screwed over, eaten, beaten to death, hanged, tortured and raped - be it for ideology, religion, territory or vengeance.

And I don't think the majority shares this opinion. Literally everyone I know personally enjoys the game immensely, and it's only the internet where I see the mass outrage, leading me to think it may be a vocal minority.

Yes the majority hates the story and if you still don’t get it watch some major reviews like from skillup or angry joe but i don’t think you would accept it anyway even if they are right and pointing out everything what’s wrong with the game

Like I belong to a relatively small yet immensely loyal Far Cry 2 fanbase despite understanding its numerous objective faults, so I don't mind when people trash the game. But I understand what they're trashing it for.
Or the reverse situation with the latest Prey, which I found to be dull and monotonous, but I see what it is that people like in it.

With TLOU2 the hate is beyond my understanding, which is why I'm surfing around asking people to share in search for reasoning.

That's cool, there are lots of games out there for people to play around with, and The Last of Us 2 is just one of the many that some will like, others will dislike for whatever reason. Makes me think of Death Stranding. I personally enjoy that game for what it is, despite the negatives. Probably gonna be the same for Cyberpunk 2077.

I mentioned in another topic that some of the things covered by Angry Joe are reasons I disliked the game, most notably the way they handled Joel's death. I feel I'm going to be reiterating a lot of stuff so I'll cut it short here. :X

Sunken cost fallacy is for ♥♥♥♥ like WoW, not a small one time purchase of a game you don't like which you could probably return, I've never bought a game, not liked it and spent all day justifying it

Just because lou2 ended in a way you didnt like, doesnt mean its a bad story.

seriously the ending is far far better than all the fan rewrites, which are like a 12 year old's fanfics.

Yeah, NieR Automata pulled the same thing but way better than the "genius" ending of TLOU2

I found the first half of Uncharted 4 extremely boring. Took me around a year to get by it.
By the time I did, the story picked up and it became an all-around solid game. I couldn't stop playing it.

I also found most of the first half of TLoU2 extremely boring..more-so than Uncharted 4.
I didn't start enjoying the game until halfway through Chapter 4, because it was less focused on 'character development' (aka emo-ness) and more about survival.

That said, Uncharted 4 is light-hearted with great humor.
TLoU2 is soap-opera level dramatic with too many left-field themes that may alienate some gamers (yet, welcome others).

..so UC4>TLOU2.
