How come all y'all say "anime" wrong?
I always hear English speakers pronounce it "an-imay." However, if you listen to this Japanese girl, it's pronounced "on-ee-may."

OR is SHE the one mispronouncing it since this guy speaking Japanese at 1:24 pronounces it "an-imay" like the English speakers say it...but a faster version of it?

Should we all be pronouncing it as "on-ee-may" :riddle:

This reminds me of:
man-ga & mon-ga :lunar2020halodragon:
Ry-you & Ri-you & Ree-you :Ryu:
Jy-row & year-row :tacooo:

sexist towards women from the user with the old cliche demeaning 'call for a good time' moniker as a username
It's from a song. And anime is being sexist towards woman claiming all woman have size quadruple zzzz boobs.

i dont think youve been watching the right anime.

I don't watch anime but from pictures of them they got big gigantic eyes and big humongous boobs that can be used for a flotation device.

Well you're the only one focusing on boobs instead of personality
Cause that is all you see in pictures that get shoved in my face on the store page. You can't see personality through a still picture. As far as watching anime i don't need that type corruption in my life.

I honestly, being an American have been pronouncing all of these, in all the ways you have stated Above...

Sometimes ill say...

Mon-ga or Man-ga, however you pronounce it...

As a way to pronounce both ways...

Ive never used...

On-ee-may, its always
Anime or Anima, something like that...

I thought a Jy-Row was an Object
But thought Year-Row was Currency

Boobs and anime are essential, as well as corruption. Feed your inner demon, turn to the dark side!
I'm going to start calling it ey-nye-moy out of spite.
why do we pronounce "restaurant" wrong?
who cares it's a sin either way.
im pronounced anime as "ei-nim"
Because it's easier to say words as regular words.

Who really cares? Apart weebs who'd better learn japanese so they let us instad of bothering them and people about trying to approximate japanese.

Also because 90 percent of people already say it like this.
Also Japanese isn't english.

If japanese wanted us to say it anime as it should be....they should've started first approximating english correctly as a-nee-meh-ee-sh-o-n but they said it as o-nee-meh-sh-on.
And the first approximation is possible in japanese but not native.

No japanese words end by the y-sound.
And eh-ee isn't native in japanese words but possible.

And then it was shortened to o-nee-may...and so it shifted english stress of the syllables that depends on the syllables and the numbers of syllables in it.

Saying it as on-ee-may isn't approximating:

English original pronunciaton/spelling
Japanese animation/spelling/pronunciation
Japanese shortened form's/spelling/pronunciation.

The japanese says: oh-nee-ma...at 1.24.
And says anime two seconds later ah-nee-meh...

a-nime would be pretty more logical.

Or animay would be a better spelling

.

Animation from which is anime is itself from french.

Why do english speakers don't say ah-nee-m-ah-s-y-on?
