I'm so sad right now. I've followed Jenna Marbles for over 5 years and she's one of the nicest people you can follow on YT. Now she's been cancelled and is quitting Youtube. :( :( :(

Cancelled in the sense of bowing to constant harassment for being white and edgy. Although, she wasn't even in blackface for the Minaj video. I didn’t see the full video, only what she showed there in the apology. From that snippet, it wasn’t offensive.

The thing about blackface is that it's not for us white folk to arbitrate on what is or isn't offensive with regard doing a modern day black and white minstrel type stuff. It works both ways though.. I think the white chicks movie should face the very same allegations.

I didn’t see the full video, only what she showed there in the apology. From that snippet, it wasn’t offensive. She was a regular self-tanner so it looked like she just put on a wig. That’s not blackface. And she wasn’t wrong in her impression of Nicki Minaj. Just because someone is black or brown or white or any other color does not mean they are above criticism and cannot be commented on.

IMO, it was unnecessary to point out individual videos but it’s her channel, her words, her choices. I think people take things too far and don’t see them as they are because they’re looking, reaching for something more. She built her channel mocking not only herself but society and how ridiculous those things can be.

Jenna is and always will be silly and random. That’s her channel brand. Funny to some, offensive to others but as humble as a youtuber can get. Everyone makes mistakes or has things in their past they’re sorry about. It’s inappropriate to beat even further. I just wish she was taking a break because she’s moving on with her life. I can’t imagine inviting strangers into my home as she has over the years. Seems exhausting.

Jenna herself admits it was blackface. That's all that is needed. From looking at some of her videos after reading this thread, she was somewhat funny but annoying.

But seriously, if the hill you're willingly to die on in 2020 is 'what is or isn't blackface' you are in for a slow, long and arduous one. Posting jokes in an attempt to 'push the boundaries' of racist humour is stupid. It should just stop.
