You ever feel lke you're too old to play games?
I think I lost the genuine feeling of happiness whenever I play a game.

The game where you're npc
To work to simulate life

I don't believe something given has no value
Why else don't you feel happy playing the game you earned

Because time start to become too valued to play

They said I was cured, put a smile on that face of yours

Yes, I do. I am tired of the same old story with different characters or/and universe. I am tired of killing pixels, etc. I am tired that I can just alt-tab and look up stuff onto google. I am tired of achievement pingeonholing me into looking up what I've to do, because otherwise I've to do same game 5 times to get 100%. I am tired of MTX and DLC. I am tired of 'influencers.' I am tired of just everything. I am tired of all the paid reviews. I am tired of all the lies.

There's so many people in the world and gaming has become so booming during the end of 2000's that everything has been done and said. There's an oversaturation on the market. There's franchisegames. There's greedy CEO's. Personally I have deleted all my games, except the simracing-''games''. Simracing or simulations are such a niche and have a whole dedicated hardware-scene. It's so amazing. Except for Trainsims, because the only hardware is a 20 year old Raildriver.

Well, getting drunk or speeding on roads isn't any more productive way to spend your time either.

So no, I don't think playing games is a "bad thing".

Whatever makes you entertained.

This subject isn't as simple as people are making it out to be.

You may be suffering from an episode of depression... or... you might just need to start playing better games! ...there's actually a lot of factors that could be leading in to how you are feeling right now.

You also have to play what you actually want to play at the moment if you want to be having fun with it. I like Super Mario 64 & the DS remake gave some new things to do but it turns out that sometimes I'd rather be playing a tactical strategy game and there's nothing in that moment that will make a platformer fun for me because I'm simply not in the mood for it at that time.

As you get older you might feel a need to play more complex & well-designed games and possibly even realize that some of the games you used to play aren't very well-designed. ...then again... you might need to just change your play-style. Perhaps you aren't challenging yourself enough.

Plenty of people play the same game for years but keep having fun with it because they come up with new self-imposed challenges to attempt such as beating a level without touching any coins (one of the hardest self-imposed challenges since levels are typically designed specifically so that the player feels good about getting at least a few coins.)

I continue to play Kirby Superstar when I have another person to play it with. It's kind of easy but it's also well-designed, imo. I can talk to the other person while playing so that we can coordinate and I can play it with someone of significantly lower skill-level (perhaps someone who has never even played games before) and actually have it be doable.

The normal playthrough gives you an AI helper that has actually pretty good AI, so playing with a friend or relative that, frankly sucks at the game, simply adds a layer of challenge - but one that you, a long-time gamer, should be able to help guide them through. Probably even harder than this would be playing it without creating a helper character at all.

Sometimes.

But it's more an issue of modern-game design and company culture that makes me feel old. I look at series I used to adore like GTA, Wolfenstein, Fallout, and Elder Scrolls and I can't help but think they are stagnating and becoming dumbed-down.

Case in point: GTA is now a cover shooter that tries to be woke. Does no other Boomer here find that incredibly sad and absurd?
Changing to something you don't like =/= stagnating, in fact, stagnating would be the exact opposite.

I've grown to accept lousy mechanics and games preaching at me, but the "games as a service model" is most definitely stagnation. It's a lazy, old idea.

Fallout, GTA, Elder Scrolls...they haven't even made a real game in half a decade or longer. They just churn out online crap to sell. In a lot of cases they're redundant and just reselling mods.

In the case GTA they now strongly discourage modding at all. This is the future of gaming.

maybe because of my wrists but otherwise no
Nope.

I'm gaming to the grave.

Why stop there?

I'll die before that will happen.
Depends on what the game is. In general, no.
I don’t know what “too old to do x” even means anymore.

Short answer: No.

Longer answer: Hell no. I'll only be "too old" when I'm dead.

Not really, though sometimes it does feel like the games industry as a whole considers my tastes to be an outlier when they can always generate infinite money with games where you shoot blokes from 10m away in a corridor that you're escorted along for 4 hours
Looking for "happiness" in gaming is a bit of a stretch, I think, kinda like playing games primarily for the story (lol). I'm just in it for the action, cheap thrills, funny/odd stuff, exploring, testing in-game limits, seeing what wacky, difficult or unlikely things can be accomplished, etc. All that can be fun and (superficially) fulfilling without bringing this siren song of "happiness" into it.

Having fun makes you happy. Will it cure depression and make you happy in your life overall? No lol, but if you're having fun you are at least experience some happiness from gaming.
