Can someone explain the appeal in twitch to me?
Dont get me wrong, I undestand the appeal in sitting at home playing video games and getting paid to do it. That makes perfect sense to me. What I dont understand, is why anyone watches streams.

Im an avid gamer, always have been and always will be. But what enjoyment do you get out of watching someone play a game when you can do it yourself? Sure, you could say its like sports where its fun to watch a team play because of their sheer skill. But I cant see watching more than a few mins without being bored as hell.

But what I really dont understand is this
WHY
IN THE F**K
WOULD ANYONE
DONATE
MONEY

Yes, let me take my hard earned cash and give it to someone so they can sit at home and comment on video games. I would rather waste it on a freaking lottery ticket, at least at that point I have some miniscule chance of getting something in return.

Am I crazy here? Am I the only person who notices this? Please, someone explain this to me, or tell me im not alone because it feels like everyone thinks its loads of fun to watch someone play video games for hours.

Remember playing goldeneye in your friends basement and feeling immense bordem and anticipation because you were waiting for someone to die so you can get the controller next? Thats how I feel watching a stream. Die all ready so i can go next.

Eh everyone has there own hobbies.

Kind of like people who sit and watch sports for hours. I myself find that boring.

Why they pay money? I will not question it. Kind of nice to get donations.

Why do people watch sports on TV instead of going out and do sports?

Hobbies to me are an activity you do. Watching TV is not considered a hobby. Im with you on sports, hockey is the only sport I actually enjoy to watch. Watching baseball, or golf, or football or soccer etc etc is like sticking ice picks in my eyeballs.

And yes its nice to get donations. Hell I imagine its beyond nice to get money to play games, but why would anyone actually donate?

Why do people do anything for hours on end?

people do it for enjoyment. what im asking is, what is enjoyable about watching someone play games?

Heres my mindset. If im on youtube and come across a frag video of csgo or whatever, I get the urge to play it and play it. I dont sit there for hours and watch it. Isnt that just boring when you could do it yourself just as easily as you can watch it?

Why do you like the things you like? Why do I like Alt Rock and not country? Why love sci-fi books and not murder mysteries? Why does anyone like anything or find it enjoyable.

It's personal preference. Maybe they can't play the games themselves? Maybe they like the person who's streamings playstyle, or their commentary, or their sense of humor. It's just something the enjoy and you don't.

As for donations, it's their money, they do with it as they please, supporting something they enjoy. That is all there is to it.

Different strokes for different folks. Ain't no reason to wonder over it. It ain't your bag.

I occasionally watch people play, especially games that interest me, but I'm too much of a coward to play on my own (obviously talking horror here). I also don't see the wrong in donating to someone who you genuinely get entertainment out of. Especially if that money is used toward their stream, like if they purchase a game I want to watch them play through the donations. Otherwise, sometimes I just find a streamer to be funny, cool, and kind, and I don't mind sending a bit their way to make them smile.

The only person that i watch streaming is Maximillian Dood because his channel is about fighting games and i can observe how does he play them to learn some useful stuff like combos.

That I can see, that makes sense to me.

And obviously I understand that people do it for enjoyment. I didnt think people watch streams because they find it as fun as taking a battering ram to the testicles. My question is what enjoyment do they get out if it. Is it interesting? Funny? Amsuing? What?

The point that I was really driving at is, why watch when you can play just as easily. And before you go to, why watch sports when you can play them... Playing sports involves finding people to play with, getting them together, having the time for it, etc etc. You ever try and get a bunch of friends together to play hockey or football or something? Its a pain when youre kids, let alone when you are an adult and have responsibilities and no time. But playing a video game takes seconds, 0 effort involved besides walking over to the computer.
