Pls help me
This is a bit of a random question, but the answer has been bugging me for a long time. Ok so...

On a microwave, if you push 60, then it will cook for 60 seconds or one minute. (Following me?) AND if you also press 1:00 it will cook for one minute, or 60 seconds. (Right, right?) OK! Well, my question is.... If you add 1:00 + 1:00 it is = 2:00 right? So your food will cook for a total of two minutes.

BUT if you add 60 seconds + 60 seconds it will only cook for one minute and twenty seconds. Even though 60 seconds is one minute? (I know, confusing question.)
I guess to put it into simpliest terms, How come 1 minute + 1 minute = 2 minutes, but 60 seconds + 60 seconds = only one minute and twenty seconds?

1:20 does not equal 120 seconds.

please tell me you are joking.

:cfacepalm:
If you put in anything with three or more digits, it will turn that first digit into a number of minutes. So 0:99 will cook it for 99 seconds, but 1:00 will cook it for 60 seconds, or a minute. Just like if you put in 720 as the number of secondsbecause you want to cook your food for 12 minutes it will actually cook for 7 minutes and twenty seconds, because that's what it thinks you put in. See what's going on now?
first 2 digits on the left are always minutes. the second 2 are always seconds.

always.

2:00 = 2 minutes

1:60 = 2 minutes.

Is that bad? This is a scholarly question

Is that bad? This is a scholarly question

it is not a "scholarly" question at all.

it requires a person to know digital clocks and how they work.

No thanks. I'm on summer break. I'd rather not go back to school just yet.

Also, I'm going to be a Junior in high school this year

If you think that I was serious, we have other issues
60 + 60 = 120 seconds = 2 minutes
1:20 = 1 minute plus 20/60 of a minute or 1.33 minutes
