Do you ever stop playing games, just because they nerfed something you think was fun?
I find myself doing this more and more lately. Especially when it's a single player non-competitive game. The game effectively becomes excommunicado. Not in every situation, but in many of them yeah, I immediately uninstall the game, and put it on my hide list, or possibly even have the game removed from my library via support options.

I honestly prefer buying games where the development is completely finished, and it's no longer being patched anymore.

The on the other hand, you got games like Monster Hunter World that's still receiving patches and content, but they don't really touch balancing. It's still one of the top played games on steam. If they started nerfing a bunch of stuff, that would just run people off.

Elder Scrolls Online
They kept nerfing my main class which was the Stamina Nightblade, I will admit, it was the most damaging and hard hitting class, but they nerfed it to the point where it was unplayable. It was a physical attacker, the buffs and the gear surrounding it kept getting nerfs.
My DPS went from 60k to 45k then eventually 30k
I have had enough of the games ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥.

I had 500 hours on the class, till I made a new one and then just got bored of the game.

I play games, and find a niche, or something that works for me, and typically stick with it until I'm bored with the game. I rarely experiment around once I found something that works for me. I certainly don't like being "forced to adapt or change my setup". That means uninstall. If I decide to change/adapt something, I'll do it at my leisure.

Hypothetical here, but if there is a game where the most fun I get out of it is abusing some OP build to trivialize the content, then there are far bigger underlying issues with that game that simple balancing changes won't fix. Now, if the developer understands this, and actually makes an effort to issue a wide number of changes that address "the game in its current state", then I might not be opposed to them doing it. However, developers putting in this kinda effort into "patches" is quite rare, and not typical at all. It's usually low effort "nerf this" patches. And that will 100% run me off.

Not quite the context I would use for myself, but yeah, I have. I don't have the time or energy anymore to re-learn the game or adapt to something new because the majority doesn't like it because reasons.

Yeah, I agree with that. Getting familiar with, or comfortable with a game is the reward at the end of the tunnel for all the effort you put into learning the game. Them constantly changing this means there is no reward at the end of the tunnel. The game feels less rewarding, I don't feel like I'm winning anything if I'm constantly having to adapt to a changing game. That's too much work/effort, and more than I'm willing to put into a game these days.

Sadly there aren't a lot of good MMORPGs, as many of them aren't that well balanced.
MMORPGs are the most versatile and unique type of games, thus and of course, versatility requires great managebility.

depends on the game i think, Diablo 3 is just bad.. reaper of souls made it good for a while, but the constant change and nerfs, so many other games is like that too.. once i liked that, but now, just annoying and frustrating, why take something good and ruin it because not everyones got the skills to play it..

The reward is still there, it just means that much more you need to do to get that same reward. Which depending on the game, it's not always a bad thing. With all of that said, I don't expect the game's development to cater entirely to me, but at the very least give me something to still enjoy the game.

Yes ratchet and clank on the PS2 going into ps3. I liked the original overkill RYANOs. The later games nerfed them. And as such I never played them

Try Path of Exile if you haven't already.

Not really but they are going to put a expiring date on guns in Destiny 2 so I might fear it drives me away because of lack of alternatives.

Games like Path of Exile for example, if you take 2 leagues off and come back, you pretty much gotta relearn the game. Everything that was good 2 leagues previously could now be trash, or require so many changes, that you gotta do a ton of research on "builds" again. It's obvious that lots of people like games like this, and think that it keeps the game feeling fresh and new, however, I am not one of those people.

I played D2, and while there was balancing changes, they were pretty rare especially years after development. People made Median XL, and I did not like Median XL precisely because of all the "balancing changes". Honestly I think PoE was inspired by D2 Median XL.

I think it comes down to, are you looking for a game to pass time on the side, or are you looking for a new religion? People wanting to play the same game for years that's constantly changing seem to me like they've adopted that game as their new religion.

Unpaid job is a better way of looking at it. The game being their boss.

The developers are their bosses, and these people are unpaid shills. Because they love whatever they get, even if it's a ♥♥♥♥ sandwich without the bread. But hey, whatever floats their boat.

Bully me, but I used to play Fortnite and stopped when they got rid of Siphoning in Season 8. I'm thankful they did though, I was genuinely embarrassed that I played the game but I was addicted, even though I sucked and could barely get a kill. I'm happy to say I've never looked back.
