Dev C++!!!

However to be honest, IDE's are never the way to go. You want programs that are clean like Dr. Java, etc. Visual Basic was always pretty cool though.

Sadly, Visual Studio I rate about a 1 out of 10. It's neat in ways, but it's garbage. Too much cyber installation, what with all of these spamwares and popups.

Sure! If you want to code something, yes.

Are you just practicing?

Codeblocks is a good option.
Eclipse C++ is also another.

Visual studio has free edition and the retail versions also have a pretty long free trial time. So plenty of elbowroom to put it to real life test. If you are on windows and develop any of the supported targets then it is hands down winner.

I'd rather go with a editor if my task is not very advanced level. I personally use Visual Studio Code, not the Visual Studio IDE which is different. Tbh I find VS code best suited for my need as it is lightweight, loads fast, is open source under MIT license ( the github version, though the only difference with the main website one is that they have the MS logo and stuff I guess ).

Though I don't work with much of C++ but I have earlier used it in VS Code and you may have to do a bit of setup work for like installing some plugins and command line, as VS code is a barebones editor on which we add plugins from their extension tab. But regardless of the setup hassle, the experience is just great.

Visual Studio. You aren’t going to beat that debugger. Next best choice I’d go with is CLion from Jetbrains. Eclipse is absolute garbage and only exists because it’s free. Don’t use it IMO. Visual Code is not an IDE, it’s a simple text editor.

If you’re a student, you can get pretty much any “ultimate” version of any IDE for little to no cost. For example I could get visual studio in college with the code profiler for $0 when it was over $10k US per license. Just check out their site or send the company an email. You typically just need a student ID to send them via email.
