Female Representation In Video Games
What are your thoughts on female representation in videogames? Have women been oversexualized in video games and media?

Neil Druckmann from Naughty Dog says that the gaming industry has sexualized women, how can games be more representative for female players?

If you have a problem with a game then don't play the game, problem solved. If someone else want's to play the game for whatever reason then what business is it of yours? There's mute buttons, age limits etc so people that don't want to consume or shouldn't then they don't have to. Instead people will watch or play something that offends them then complain they were offended, this logic beggars belief.
Voting with your wallet is always something I'll encourage since it's probably one of the best ways to get corporations to listen, but if a business creates a product you don't like there is nothing wrong with telling them (or in this case random Internet users since the CEO of Video Games probably won't read my emails). Think of it as feedback if you want, people tell developers what they want to see more/less of in their games and the developers can decide if they want to implement the changes to get my money.

Yes, although I think things have been getting better (I assume because more women have been getting involved in game design, rather than leaving it up to men who are more interested in designing their digital waifu than accurately representing women).
And before someone rages because I'm taking their waifus away, you can include sexuality in your games without going overboard with it. But presenting the vast majority of women in games as borderline anatomically impossible (or outright anatomically impossible in some cases) is not healthy for young girls looking for role models in my opinion. I'd say the same thing about young boys looking for role models, but from my experience games offer much more diversity when it comes to men and there is nowhere near the same amount of sexualisation.
Is that really a thing? Video game characters as role models?

I mean, I get role playing, but this seems a bit much. I've grown up with video games since I was 4 years old and I never got anywhere close to idolizing a video game character.
Yes. It's pretty common for kids to idolize or have become strongly attached to characters in any medium. People are also just generally influenced by the media they consume.

Yes, I think women have been overly sexualized in a lot of video games. It's not the case with in all of them but a vast majority games from big known developers featuring female protagonist/secondary or side character have this issue.

I believe on average 9/10 gamers here on Steam are obviously male and it's most likely the same with PS4 and Xbox. I don't know about mobile games but I'm pretty sure there are a lot of women who play mobile/casual games.

With console games it's not surprising to see the trend of since a lot of these games are made to appeal men. This is kinda a dumb topic, I don't think it's unfair or anything like that. Most video games are meant for everyone. If a girl likes games she can always play Nintendo since they are known to have family friendly content. Sony also seems to stay away from controversial themes with their video games (ignoring TLOU2 leaks and some Quantic Dream titles). I've heard Sont has a very strict quality control and "fair" censorship so I don't think all games suffer from this stereotype.

Probably in some games, but I personally don't care. When I get the option to customize a character, I try to make them as attractive as possible. I have tons of not-so-lore-friendly mods on Skyrim, for example. People should be able to distinguish between reality and fiction. Plus, a lot of men in video games are made to be unusually attractive too.

I wouldn't listen to what an Anita Sarkeesian fanboy has to say about any industry :emofdr:

It really depends on how the game presents its world. If the tone of the game clashes with how it presents female characters it's an issue for me, otherwise I'll just enjoy the eyecandy.

Uh...

Did you play The last of us? She was already a lesbian. That's not a new development. people just want to overlook that because she's actually in a relationship in this game.

Oh no. A woman has a normal healthy relationship with another woman. Must be an agenda!

Freaking hell.

Here's a little secret. Women like to look at hot chicks. That's no surprise.

And you know what? Have you seen the dudes in video games? I sure as hell don't look like any of them except maybe the RC helicopter guy in San Andreas. You can't hold up a double standard and have an actual conversation. And quite a few of my favorite characters in video games are women that aren't overly sexualized. Lara Croft in tomb raider 2013. The main character in fear effect.

You don't see me complaining that a lot of men are built like brick ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥
Also men like to look at good looking men and there is nothing wrong with it
