The term 'girl gamer'

I personally think the term girl gamer is kinda unnecessary. Gaming is all about teamwork and enjoying the game and nothing to do with gender, imo anyways. Most of my friends treat me the same way as their other friends, why make a point of our gender when we’re doing the exact same thing and a lot of the time we’re doing it at the same level, if not better?

The only people who use the term "gamer girl" seriously are either:
-Girls who don't actually play video games.
-Boys who are gatekeeping video games from girls.

It's really just a relic of the past, when video games were originally marketed for boys specifically.
Everyone plays video games nowadays, so a distinction is unnecessary.
