GTX 1080 OC + i9 8950HK + 32GB RAM 2666mhz games microstutter
Hi everyone,

I got the Alienware 17R5 with the GTX 1080 OC and i9 8950HK + 32GB RAM running at 2666mhz. I got really bad stuttering in games were my fps will drop below 60 and then goes back up to 100+. I'm using a 1440p screen with G-SYNC.
It's driving me crazy that with these specs I can't even run those games like BFV, RE2,Jedi: Fallen Order without FPS drops.
I did some tests on diagnostics from Alienware and it said that everything is working as intended.
I also cleaned my CPU fans and added new thermal paste from Grizzly.
Also ran Aida64 and there was no thermal throttling when i did the system stability test.
Arma runs 60+ fps on high 1440p going all the way up to 90 and then dips occasionally to 62 or 59 fps. Those dips are really frustrating because i notice them.

Those dips are not stuttering, stuttering is a different thing. Those dips are because your graphics settings are too high and there's a lot going on. Turn down some graphics settings and that'll even out. If you're playing on High, switch to Medium, then up things one at a time. In particular, antialiasing can be pretty hard on a graphics card, turn that stuff way down.

I already fixed it, it was speedstep and speedshift messing with my laptop throttling down when i was playing. I now get stable fps 100+ on Epic in Jedi fallen order and BFV etc.

Oh wonderful! OP solved their issue! And I learned two new things about Intel that I'll probably never bother with because my PC is not a laptop!

*clap clap clap clap* Yay! :D

That is pretty mediocre.

No it's not, it's much better. I always have to shake my head at your silly comments when it comes to hardware, and if you ever read the answers, then you know I'm not alone.

I would suggest not to talk ♥♥♥♥ about something you know nothing about.
The gpu isn't even a Ti and it's an i9 with 32gb ram, you don't need an i9 and 32gb, and i7 9th gen and GTX 1080 ti with 16gb ram would be better, and to some it is a mediocre setup

I am happy to be of service.
Why y'all hating on this setup :D
Your first mistake was spending whatever amount of money to buy that thing.. you could've built a PC twice as good as that for the same price
Here's the "beast" in question.

Yeah, this is why I don't go for laptops. Also there's not much flexibility if something needs upgrading. Or changing.

Oh well! ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Why you worry about how I spend my money man? I got this from the company I work for so I didn't even spend my own money..i'm enjoying 100+ fps in all games on 1440p so whats the problem?

What is your job? You never said anything about a job that "gave" you the laptop!
