When I mean social, you can go in the game just to hang out and meet other games. Not actually forced to play any games. Something like Tower Unite, VRChat, etc... Though no virtual reality games, since I don't feel like hooking up my oculus rift right now :P
Now mostly is VR Chat I believe.
Unfortunately there's not a lot of games in the genre. VRChat and Rec Room are playable without VR though! There's games with lots of potential for socialization, but their focus is on something entirely different, like MMOs, battle royales, and

has matchmaking that puts players into groups of 9 people in 50 player teams and gives them strong encouragement to work together
