Why do so many people care so much about achievements?
I always see people running for achievements, as if they were gold, some clearly using third-party programs to achieve achievements, and I don't understand, why? what do you get out of it? Everyone knows that the steam achievement system cannot be taken seriously, so what's the point?

Clarify me please,
Thank you

dopamine, Theres a glitch in the system

You shouldn't feel good for making "fake" progress in "fake" worlds. But the brain is too dumb to know real from fake.

Whole reason tulpa work. And with visualization you can trick your brain into feeling almost any way you want.

You can use achievements to decorate your profile.

I guess it must feel good getting a hard achievement and it does extend the playtime of most videogames, gives you more "stuff to do" in a game you enjoy if you care about doing it. I'd rather have achievements available than not, even if I don't particularly care about getting them

I remember the days when achievements were new. They were so few simple and pointless. Then they began adding more and more.

Whatever, if it keeps people entertained and happy while busy and distracted then whatever.

I like to go for achievements for that extra replay value. I also like challenges in games (playing them on hard or hardest difficult) and some achievements offer a challenge. It’s the same with games that have side missions - I try to complete all side missions whether it’s linked to a achievement or not.

I’ve only recently started taking a interest in achievements on Steam.

I get absolutely depressed when games have PvP achivements. Because I'm not about that or multiplayer anymore.

And some devs just have lost it or are trolling and add ones like die 1,000 times. to games you might die 1-20 times in a whole playthrough.

I like to getting achievement for games that I like too. I was talking about these people with fake achievements (99% of people chasing achievements are faking achievements)

Well probably the same reason why people use wallhacks and other cheats, I guess they think it looks nice too, but surely everyone knows who got them by cheating

Developers trolling? Probably, which is why achievements now fall under "who gives a chuck?"

When achievements were new there were 6 or 8 each and they were so simple everyone would have them. Eventually developers began adding all sorts of junk that would drive those with O.C.D insane. Such as "melee attack a door knob with an umbrella 5,000 times." Yes, I'm exaggerating, because no such achievement exists, not yet. :steamfacepalm:

Dungeons of dredmor once had an achivement where you needed to meet the devs irl for a drink.

Or maybe it was send them the money so they could buy one irl. I'm not sure.
